Measure of temperatur! - Ducati.ms

There is water and air cooled Ducaties. I have one of both (HM and 848) The HM takes longer to get hot (according to the panel) and runs higher temp(app 100C after 2-1 Termi set mounted - 110-115 Stock std.) the 848 gets warm in a lot shorter time and runs around 85C.

Question is: On he HM you measure the oil temp. on the 848 you measure water temp - is this correct?
If so, I guess it's more correct to measure oil temp then water!? If so, should I start waiting even longer before I can believe the 848 is up to temp? And, what oil temp would the 848 run?

You get faster warm-up times with water-cooled bikes due to the use of a
thermostat to shut off flow to the radiator(s) when the engine is cold. It is
possible (and a good idea in cold climates) to have an oil thermostat on
oil-cooled bikes.

The 848 temp gauge is also measuring oil temp, just like the Hyper.

For the ultimate gauge pack, I prefer both water and oil temp to be displayed
where applicable. High performance/race cars do this. Your 848 running at
85 C sounds about right, but ask the 848 forum. Oil temps on a Hyper or other
air-cooled bike will vary a lot depending on the air temperature and how much
of it is moving over the engine. Sitting in heavy traffic or at stop lights for
extended periods will cause the oil temp to rise steadily. With no cooling fans,
these bikes are best on the open road, but will survive in urban streets. If
you do a lot of city riding in hot climate, more frequent oil changes are a good
idea, since oils do break down at high temps (see oil threads on this forum). 100%
synthetic oils are a good idea for guys pushing the limits of high operating temps,
and for anyone wanting the best lube in their engines.
