Two Tire Questions - Street and Race
Picked up a used 08 about six weeks ago and have two tire questions for you guys. Searched and didn't come up with much definitive.
First, after a month of riding I've realized I'm not a fan of the BT014s and want some more grip. If price and lifespan were NOT issues, but pure grip and handling were, which of following three street tires seem to be the best choice for the Hyper:
DC III
Power 2CT
BT003RS
Also considering the new Q2, but need to see a review first, as the old Sportmax streets sucked. I also here there is street-ish compound Power One that might be an option.
Second question, have any of you guys run DOT race tires on the Hyper on the track with the STOCK suspension? I've never run street tires on the track and would much prefer a race tire in that environment, but I'm concerned that the extra grip is going to play havoc with the underdamped stock suspension. Curious if anyone on here has run a true DOT race tire on their bike at a track day with good results.
Thanks!

The BT-003RS's seem to be pretty good. I've only run the front but it stuck great. Just installed the rear and will run it at Laguna Seca next month. 08Hyper has been running them as a set and likes them and he is fast so probably can't go wrong with them, especially for the price.
I also liked the Pirelli Corsa III's that came on the S, but they are pricey!!
Hope this helps.

I got a couple of buddies that swear by the B016s. They get good mileage and stick like glue. They run them on the track too.
I am going to run them or the B003s next time out. I really like the PP 2CTs and have run several sets. I just want to try something a little different.
Out!

Perhaps my views are very different due to riding conditions in my country. We get wet riding several times a week. But anyway here's my take.
The stock that came with my '08 s was so-so. Pretty good in the wet. Changed it to SC2 and loved it coz those were the same ones I used when I was racing profesionally. Excellent in the wet. Used 2 sets of those. Then wore it out and no stock so went for the BT016. Rode it for 2 days and sent them back. Lousy and dangerous in the wet. Slight wobble at max lean angle. It has a short patern towards the edge which i'm not used to.
Then went for the PowerOne "A" compound. Sticks like glue, can't beat SC2 in the wet BUT wobble like hell on the straights to the point I had to install a steering damper
Will be trying the BT003 in a few days

the wobble is just different height fronts. you can fix this by raising forks a few mm or prob just letting off some rebound at the front. could also be a saggy rear. if your over 75kg then i would say spring too soft.
in answer to the question. I like dunlop slicks now on the track but I've got better suspension.
bt016's are fine when you get the pressure right, I ran these on the track no probs but they will get loose when super hot. 30psi rear and 33-34 front HOT seems ideal for them, dunlops are down at like 28-30 HOT F/R
I'm going to run dunlop sportmax DOT's on the road next, they have a better profile

Different height yes. I think The Michelins are higher. Had to lower it down a couple off mm for the SC2 and it was cured. Can't go any lower as I'm scrapping the pipes, brake levers and pegs as it is on the road. I'm 62kg

When I feel my bike gets unstable at high speed, I will lower the fork tubes in the triple clamps to raise the front to increase the rake slightly, this makes the bike more stable, but will take away some steering precision, (kinda give & take)
I'm running the new BTOO3's now and for the track I run 30psi front & 32psi rear (cold) and 32psi F & 36psi R (cold) for the street, Aloha Alex

i haven't put many miles on the bt014 that came on the bike but i know i didn't like them when they came one my gixxer 600. im going to switch them out for the corsa 3's i like those the most of the street. when i do take the hyper to the track i think im going to stick with the Pirelli. i ran them when i started racing and never had a problem with them. some slip but very controllable on the track, plus they rock on the street. i run the dunlop gpa's on my race bike and they are a sweet tire but i just cant see myself needing them on a mainly street sometime track bike.

I have to admit im not all that impressed with them. on 4 or 5 occasions ive slid the front on aggressive braking and thus ive now adapted my riding style around them.
Sure given that the roads ive done this on dont really have the best of traction to begin with but on my DRZ ive never slid the front on the same roads. Might also have something to do with the weight and suspension travel. Over all though it might be for the best as its pushed me to be a smoother rider and carry a bit better corner speed.
I do think ill try a different set when they are do for a change.

did they come stock on your hyper? maybe they are diff then the aftermarket ones? i have only run them on sportbikes maybe they act diff on the hyper or maybe you need to adjust your suspension
