My bike wouldn't start this morning

I've seen this thread before, but this morning, MY bike would not start. Just kept cranking over and wouldn't catch. So I had to take the car to work. I'll check it again when I get home. My bike is equipped with LV cat eliminator and slip-ons, PCIII, and a fatduc emulator. I have never really been too happy with the way it starts. Seems to crank over too many revolutions IMHO before it will light off. A fuel injected bike should fire off instanly, right?

Sounds like you have ignition, but there is a fuel delivery issue?
The older I get....the less I modify stuff....It is tough to out-engineer the factory, particularly when you put 3-4 "foreign" components onto a stock bike. I did the slipon termis and DP ECU, but this was thoroughly tested, and it was a known fix for a stock deficiency (stalling).
Perhaps there is a specialist in your area who could help you tune the bike, now that is has the mods? TPS adjustment, or...?

Do you have the sub mount scotts stabilizer? If so it could be the security ring that was taken off the stock part and put on the new aluminum one.

It wouldn't even turn over if it was the security ring issue...

Mine was hard starting, after three start cycles I opened the throttle. Some posts on this, some claim to whack the throttle before you push the button. Iridium plugs helped mine but still cranks on & on sometimes. I took it in for service before the plugs on this issue, armed with video, everything checked out. The service tech claims slow crank due to bad battery @ 12.4 volts. It cranked slow from day one, I metered the battery after and got 13.8 volts. I agree FI should fire immediately. K/N, DP lid, fatduc, iridium plugs all else stock.

had the same problem w/ my 996s w/ single injector mod. the mechanic i was using told me to turn the key on and whack the throttle a couple of times while holding the starter button. he said that it would pulse the injectors and give it a little more needed fuel on startup. i am no mechanic, so i can't tell you if that is what was happening. i can tell you that it worked like a champ and i never had issues getting it cold started as long as i did what he said. try it. you can't hurt anything.
