Thrown a Sparkplug?
Hi all,
I know I don't post very often but I need some help
This past weekend I was out riding and the Front cylinder R.H. side popped it's sparkplug!
Now I'm not sure if this is because it was'nt tightened properly during it's last service (12000 K/m) or because of a fault e.g. a warranty claim?
So has anyone heard of this happening on the hypermotard before?

Never heard of a DS engine doing that at all, is the thread buggered or not?

Well I was stuck in the middle of nowhere but managed to find the plug and tried to clean the thread as much as possible with a screwdriver and put it back in part-way, stopping frequently to check and got it home and have had the dealer run a tap through it, but it was damaged about halfway through the thread, so I'm not entirely satisfied it's kosher!
So I'm trying for a warranty job and thought well if it's happened to others it'll make my case stronger!
Failing that I guess a sleeve will have to suffice!

If you are in your warranty period then I would go for it but they might try and say you fluffed around with it, the are good like that.

Not good for sure . Last rainy day , did the once over and found front left plug was cracked on the insulator in two spots ,Dealer gave me a new Champion plug (different brand) than original. It pays to go over the bike often , and I like to try to dig a little deeper each time . Don't be afraid to take parts off and do a look see, never know what you might discover.
I would be persistant about getting it repaired properly, if you didn't mess with it, I would have thought it would have stayed on the plug wire. You are lucky that it didn't get down in the Belts ...12000 kms? you might have trouble I would try being nice to the dealer first and then be persistant I give you a 50/50 chance.Good luck .

Holy crap! Lucky it didn't hurt anyone when it came out. One more reason why I try to avoid the dealership as much as possible. I would definitely push for a warranty claim especially if you have had all the work done at that shop. Good luck!

Well thats just it I am still in the warranty period and have therefore left the servicing to the dealer. On average I do around 25000 k/m a year.
I'm not surprised that it did'nt stay on the plug lead as I was up around the 7000rpm range when it let go!
But yeah it's not looking good if I'm the only one to have had this happen to them, I might have to try the dealer at fault option and see if I can get the job done with minimum labour costs.

My old shop teacher taught us that if you do not tighten the spark plugs correctly (the correct torque) they can pop out. I would call the dealer and them them what happened and you want them to correct the problem that it appears they caused. Be polite, don't start rattling anyone unless you get a run around.
