Removing pressure plate, do I need to drain clutch fluid?

I want to say no, but do I need to drain the clutch fluid to remove the pressure plate?

I'm not sure if there is a piston inside the slave that pushes the rod, or if the rod gets pushed on directly by the fluid.

I started to slide it out a tiny bit and I could see the fluid lowering in the reservoir so I wasn't sure if the piston was moving out with the rod or if fluid is right behind the rod.

Thanks!
