the hyper got me in trouble
I was on a 5 lane highway in MD just outside of DC. the speed limit there is 55. everybody is doing well above the speed limit. I'm on the far left lane going with the flow of traffic and little bit faster than the rest. then all the sudden a state troopers pulls me over. he tells me that I was doing 77 mph on a 55 mph zone. I told him that I was just going with the flow of traffic, and no car is doing 55. He tells me"that is why we are here". He went ahead and gave me the fine which was 160 bucks and 2 pts. I know that I was speeding, but i want to go to court and question the fine. Do you guys think is a good idea. I want to tell the judge that I was just going with the flow of traffic and that I couldn't go 55 because that will put me in danger with the other cars that are doing well past the limit. I appreciate any suggestions thanks guys

Not sure how well that would fly with your honor.
Maybe a different story if you weren't in the fast lane but going with the flow in the center lanes.
Perhaps if there was someone riding your a$$ and you were making an attempt to get out of their way...

That won't work
Do not lose sight of the basic, underlying fact that, in part, the entire process is set up to have citizens pay for the police. That day, the cops tagged you to pay $160. The judge will respect the process & order you to pay.
There are explanations any given judge will accept, but it has to be a good one - not "everyone else was doing it", especially as there were slower lanes to get into.

It never hurts to go to court if you're willing to endure the hassle. At worst, the judge simply says go away and pay your fine. At best, the cop doesn't show and you get off. You'll want to retain a lawyer if you want to fight it though.

My insurance agent actually RECOMMENDS fighting a ticket. As heffergm posted, there's a very good chance the officer won't show up, so you'll walk, and it can't get any worse than the fine/points you already know you'll get! If you've got the time, it's worth it.

Definitely go to court and try to have the points reduced. Tickets suck but tickets and points and possible insurance surcharges suck for three years!

Fight it. Do they have differed judefication where you live? Its where you pay the fine and if you don't get a ticket withing 90 days they don't apply any points to your license. Here in Dallas, there was a bit on the news where the courts are so backed up with people fighting traffic tickets that they are trying to find new ways to expedite the process. They interviewed a guy who has been able to postpone his hearing for 10 years. He keeps doing it in hopes the officer won't show up.
I read that Arizona is installing permanent speeding camera's. Now your just gonna get a speeding ticket in the mail without even knowing it.

Route 50, by chance?
Lots of the Fast and Furious-er crowd on Hayabusas blasting up and down the highways at triple digit speeds have led to a crackdown on m/cs in the area. You got caught in one of the consequences.
Fight it if you want, but given the history here, I doubt you'll catch a break in court. Sorry.

I was on 270 N its crazy. I think I'm just going to pay the fine I called them and I have to check with them for the trial date and I have to drive 2 hours. It might end up costing me more than 160 to go to court and my chances are not so high.

Fight It
If you have the time, fight it. From my past experiences, the cop might not show up if your lucky - if he does be respectful to the judge and ask for leniency and they will usually reduce the fine (I have never had them reduce the # of points for the violation though). Good Luck!
