Limped it home today...from the dealer!

So I picked up a demo 2008 1100S here in Japan. It was 2/3 than the $18,000-ish sticker of a new 2009, so how could I pass it up?

Well, the first 30 minutes were an absolute dream. While I still missed my 996S, this bike was everything I wanted.

She's running smooth, strong, and man does she turns heads. Glad I wear a full face helmet because the I had the dumbest grin on underneath!

Then the honeymoon was over. Once she got up to temp, she would die everytime I pulled in the clutch when coming to a stop. The first time, I thought, "It happens, my 996 did it when she wasn't warmed up..." Well it continued to happen in the stop and go traffic...about 15-20 more times. You can imagine the issue in stop and go traffic was a nightmare. The scariest part was almost being ran over by a dump truck. We were rolling up to a stoplight and it was about to turn green, so I pulled the clutch to shift into 1st and she died. Truck thought I was going since it was green and he came within 6 inches of hitting me. Truck horns are really loud when you're that close to them!

I let her cool down at home and tried her again later. No issues under 100C, but once she gets in the 115's+, she dies all the time. I checked spark plug wires and battery connections; all tight.

Dealer coming to pick it up today.

Read a lot of posts but few seem to be stalling in decel and it doesn't seem like anything the dealer can fix, unless they adjust it when she's hot. I guess I'll also pick up the O2 manipulator and give that a try too.

Glad to be here...just wish I could ride!

Dana

Ah ha!

I tried a couple different words in the search and there does seem to be some diagnostic checks the dealer can run...fingers crossed!

Dana,

Don't let the dealer convince you there is nothing they can do about it!

It is not right and there will be something that can be done.

Has the bike been modified in any way?

All cosmetics:
Frame Sliders
Evo-tech Tidy Tail
DP Luggage Rack

I just ordered the O2 manipulator from DesmoTimes.

The dealer on the phone didn't admit it's a widespread problem, but he and I both knew this isn't something new for HM's.

It's quite possible it's a sensor issue of some kind. Temp, MAP, TPS.

The dealer should have a DDS and be able to investigate. Make sure to pin them down to a solution and you should record every thing they do or say they have done!

If you don't get a satisfactory result go directly to DUCATI Italy!

This problem does not occur on every HM therefore it should not occur on ANY!
