Brake Questions

I recently rode a Streetfighter over ACH, which has Brembo monoblocks. The regular Hyper does not have the monoblocks and appears to have a different master cylinder.

I really liked the feel of the Streetfighter brakes, they were definitely 1 finger strong. What do I need to do to get that feel on the Hyper?

I am not sure if the master cylinder sizes are different or the caliper piston sizes are different? I know the monoblock design isn't making them this much stronger. If it's the master cylinder I imagine I could just put that one on the hyper?

What are the master cylinder/caliper sizes on both?

Thanks!

Not sure about the standard Hyper, but the "S" has amazing brakes, almost borderline too strong, you have to be careful in the canyons & on the track. Aloha Alex

Also remember the Streetfighter has 330mm rotors vs the 305mm on the Hyper.

Rotor size is what is giving you that bitchen feeling that you want on the Hyper.

My 749S with the larger rotors and axial calipers felt stronger and more linear than my standard Hyper did with the smaller rotors and radial 2-piece calipers.

I ended up ditching my standard Hyper's cast 2-piece calipers for the Brembo HP series billet 2-piece ... I coupled them with a Brembo GP radial master and TA-DA! amazing brakes with AMAZING feel.

That said, upgrading to a pair of Brembo monoblocks like what comes stardard on the S will GREATLY improve your standard Hyper's braking albeit not to the extent of the S because of the standard Hyper's cast wheels vs. the S's forged pieces. Everything makes a difference...

Also, the masters and calipers of all the Streetfighter and Hyper S's are the same. Not sure what the master size is but the calipers are monoblocks with 100mm bolt spacing.

Thanks for the replies..

I'm looking for some numbers on master cylinder sizes and caliper piston sizes. There is no way the ratio on the two bikes are the same. I can tell by the feel alone.

The monobloc calipers on the S have 34mm pistons and mostly likely 18 or 19mm master cylinders. I have the same monobloc calipers, 320mm rotors and Brembo 19 RCS Radial Master Cylinder on my Paul Smart. True one finger braking.

Italianpower, all you need to focus on for feel and strength is the master and caliper... rotor size is only to help with brake fade because a larger rotor will not heat up as much as a smaller rotor and disapates heat better. Also good brake pads actually help more than you would think.

Exactly what I was thinking, the rotor size is not the cause.

I am just trying to find out the master cylinder and caliper piston sizes from both bikes, then I can compare the ratios.

Base HM sizes, anyone?

Are you running it as 19x18 or 19x20? How do you like the RCS, worth the $350?

I'm running 19x18 right now. I paid less, I like them a lot. You might try downloading the parts catalogs at ducati.com, then compare part numbers between different bike models . Also go here for Brembo: http://www.brembo.com/NR/rdonlyres/D...erinternet.pdf
