Skid plates look like a good idea... - Ducati.ms

I had to remove my Ducati Performance metal skid plate to do my oil change, and it was pretty filthy! Once I got it off and cleaned it I noticed that it really does taking a beating. There wasn't any major damage to it, but it was pretty well sandblasted and had a few impressive nicks. I was kind of thinking about leaving it off since it's hard to keep clean and it's a bit of a hassle to remove to do an oil service, but after seeing how much stuff must be hitting it instead of the motor I think I'll keep it. They're pretty cheap and if you've got a Hyper you might want to consider one.

As a side note, the skid plate makes it much easier to raise both wheels off

the ground by using a center bike lift, raiseing the bike using the skid plate.

PS: it does make it harder to do an oil change, but to me its worth it.

Could the plate be cut so that it doesnt have to be removed to change the oil? In the pic it looks like the only issue is getting the filter off. Is that correct?

K & N might be a good choice of filter. It has a nut attached to the bottom which would make it far easier to remove than a filter requiring a band wrench.
