Cracked Rack

Anyone else have the rear hypermotard rack?

I had one installed when I picked the bike up from inspection, and it lasted about 250 miles...the Givi box weighed 20.5 pounds...

...I'm debating whether to go back to Ducati with the rack, or whether just to take it to my local welder have have it rebuilt...

I've had one since day one without issue but I haven't loaded anything other than groceries and a bike cover on it. I would check to see what it's rated for. I assume it has a load rating (I know harley racks usually have labels on them stating the max load) and if it's rated for 20.5+ pounds I would go to Ducati with it. Good luck either way.

Got one, wouldn't use it for more than the little tail pack Ducati sells or similar. Definitely strikes me as too weak for a full size Givi.

I once asked the Ducati dealer the weight limit for the rack and he said it's the same as the one on Multistrada (?) which is 11lbs

When I got my rack I had it reinforced with "L" shaped plates before installing my GIVI box (can't remember the size or model of my GIVI)

Have a look at my photo gallery here. Some shots of the reinforcemnt and other needed stuff you should do i.e sealing your subframe ends.

I don;t think Ducati would entertain your claims if they find out you put a Givi on it

Btw, the GIVI box itself is about the max allowed weight for the rack. So I guess I have been lucky carrying my 600mm f4 L lens which weights about 12lbs. In total over 20lbs on the rack!

I have since removed the GIVI coz Canon says I should NOT be exposing the lens to such harsh conditions (vibrations, bumps etc)

I heeded their advise (canon's) only coz the lens cost about USD9,000!!

After seeing the pics of the cracked rack, i'm glad I did. Thanks guys

I have to say - I bought this Coretech tail bag for $63 bucks (http://www.tourmaster.com/xcart/cata...Bag-p-148.html) and I love it. I probably dont even need the lugagge rack anymore but I do strap the bag to it. I took a long ride yesterday with the bag packed for an overnight and it was perfect. I even moved it forward for lumbar support on the ride.

Maybe a better alternative to the Givi?

I ordered that rack when I got my Hyper, and as soon as I saw the mount I passed on it.
