You have to weed through the service menus to see the actual code after
one is thrown. The self-test that exercises the EXV servo at key-on is a
bit of a kluge, so I wouldn't worry about a single error if it only happens
very rarely. Basically, the ECU is checking the full range of the flapper
valve by sending the rotary servo off in one direction until it stops, recording
the servo position, then reversing to the other extreme limit and reading
that servo position. Stickiness in the flapper assembly or a disconnected
cable will cause it to fail the self-test. There is also a short version of this
self test that occurs on most power-ups, but I won't go into the details
here. The long version is run every so many power ups, and can usually
be forced by disconnecting the battery (but not always). Clear as mud?
To make matters more interesting, once the error has been detected, the
ECU tends to keep re-running the long version of the EXV exercise until the
error clears, possibly an attempt to clear carbon build-up in the valve.
Ahh technology, ain't it great??
