Flywheels, Original steel v Aftermarket Aluminum
Seems there are only two real choices here in the UK, Have the existing steel unit lightened or go for the Nichols Aluminum Flywheel, Ducati dealers don't list a DP one, Question: Is it an advantage/better to have the existing unit lightened, as it remains steel and therefore the splines are as strong as they need to be over the Aluminum ones? plus you can pick the weigh, if you have had your flywheel lightened, what weigh did you go for?

In the USA we have the 3 choices, the Nichols 9oz, the DP aluminum one, about 2 lbs, (looks like stock but in aluminum) or turn yours down to to aprox 2 lbs. (which I have) the stock flywheel can only be turned to about 2 lbs.
There should be no problems with any of these flywheels, but I did hear of some possible fitment issues on the DP aluminum one. Aloha Alex

I went with the Duc Shop version of turning the stock one down to about two pounds and it works great. I think the Alum ones, at less than a pound, would be better for Track Days and not as good for the street.....!

9 oz Nichols works fine on the street. With the heavy crank and all the other bits that go around in the engine there's plenty of rotating weight.

I run the nichols on the street and love it... I have yet to stall it but I tend to rape on the clutch alot too.

Flywheel options
Greetings all,
I too have the nichols flywheel and it works very well on the street. I think the flywheel is the best cost to benefit option that I have made so far. (full termi, -1 on the CS sprocket as well)
Best regards,
Joe
