Wiring help from ECU (long)

Okay I have some questions for all you super knowledgeable guys...I'm hooking up a data gathering lap timer...

1) which is the easiest 12v power supply to reach at the front of the bike that is only on when switched on...

2)Do any of you know which wire that I could connect to that does this...

The GPX can record RPM data. RPM may be picked up in two different ways – either “direct” or“coupled” (induction).
Most fuel-injected engines will have such a signal available. The signal can be as low as a 3.3-volt peak-to-peak signal,or 12-V peak-to-peak signal. You might also use a one of the fuel-injector outputs of the ECU as the RPM input.

I can tie a wire around the spark plug wire but I'm trying to do a clean install and appearantly the direct method is more accurate...

You have to be careful using switched power on this bike. If you have a DP ECU and are not using the O2 sensor, use the +12V on the O2 sensor connector. This is a directly switched 15A ckt, and works fine for me powering my GPS. Its on the upper middle of the frame, easy to get to.

As long as the tach input to the device was designed to connect to a coil or injector drive (high impedance) it should be OK to do so. If your not sure about this then I would avoid it and use the induction method. A few turns up near the coil out of sight should work fine.

Thanks, that was informative.. I have the 2 into 1 exhaust, and removed some sensors and plugs...Is the O2 sensor the wires I unplugged when taking off the stock exhaust that were by the catalytic converter? I guess I can just check to make sure with my tester. I think I'll do a coil wrap, I don't want to tie into something unless I"m sure about it.

Yes, thats the connector. I don't remember the wire color off hand, so check with a DVM to gnd while switching the key ON/OFF. The inductive method should be fine, I have an hour meter on my enduro bike set up like this and it has been completely reliable.
