Oh dear, I think I want a new/another bike...
I want another smaller lighter motard ( had 2 Husky SM 610's, Aprilia SXV 550 before).
I want the new KTM 690SMC.
I dont think my wife will allow it though.
What I need is some top tips to persuade her that it is not unreasonable to have the HM AND the SMC ( or maybe another lesser cheaper motard).
Please help.
Jonathan

You bet !
I know there are many of us with the HyperMotard AND a SuperMotard
I know at least 5 to 10 of us have a signature showing the Hypermotard and the Husky 610 SM
I will not sell my 610 any time soon!
PS: The SXV is the best power/weight ratio but so expensive to maintain (I think the pistons were rated for 50 hours...). The news KTM 690 has great power, but it feels way heavier than the Husky 610. I still love my 610 and have so much fun with it, even I feel she is mad at me for riding the Hyper more lately...

Jono, I have 4 bikes, but then again I'm not married, so my advice may be irrelevant. Have you looked in salary sacrificing with a novated lease? I have done it for my last 2 bikes (one lease only, one fully maintained) If you want more details send me a PM and we'll catch up for a beer, considering you're only 5 mins down the road

Explain how much safer the smaller motard is. It is also cheaper to insure. Then with the economy the way it is, you just can't sell the hyper.

I have two bikes, about to buy another and I have a wife, pictured below on my MH900e.
She knows that a happy Andi is a good Andi and a good Andi playing with bikes is not playing with other woman and drinking at the pub every night.. her logic and it works.
Pay it forward, she gives in to my passion of motorcycles and I gave her a new vacuum cleaner (Can say that when she is not here), seriously, she loves going on the back of the bike and she has her passions which I give in to her, goes round come round ... very easy concept and works very well for us.
Life is good so make it work for the two of you!

I would like to point out that monstaman's comments are in no way applicable to anyone else because his wife is one of the most accomodating easy-going people in the world and so Andi's experiences are not comparable to us mere mortals.
Having said that, to the OP I say... HIDE IT. Hide it for awhile in a friend's garage, then one day switch it with the bike you do have and tell her it's been the same bike all along. Then after awhile switch it back... get her totally confused, mental torture by making her think she's gone nuts-CIA style. After awhile she'll be so spent that you can comfortably keep both at your house and when she mentions it, just answer that she's seeing things again.

Well you certainly came to the right forum to seek help! The SMC is a very nice bike. I could easily see one of those in my garage.
Bikes are like golf clubs. You can't play a proper round of golf with only one club. You need a bag full of clubs, and a garage full of bikes. Same thing with fly rods. You need the big stick for the big water and the light stick for the skinny water. I could go on and on.
I have 7 bikes in my garage along with 2 dogs and about 20 fly rods so I'm somewhat of an expert on the subject.

'Having said that, to the OP I say... HIDE IT. '
I like your style!
Thanks for the advice:
Options:
1.Do it , any pay the consequences
2.Dont do it, sulk, and see if she gives in ( my usual tack)
3.Buy her a vacuum cleaner first ( I know that'll end badly- for me)- mind you, it is nearly mothers day over here !!
4.Try the safety aspect.
5.All of the above.
I'll keep you posted .
Thanks
Jonathan

I have an 05 KTM 625 SMC, then bought an 07 SXV 550 and then the Hyper. I finally traded in the Hyper cause the fun factor for me was much higher on the SXV....or the KTM for that matter. At the end of last season I was spending every Sunday on the motards and the Hyper was not leaving the garage. I say go for it......by a real motard, you won't regret it.
