6.4 Gal Tank, First Impressions

PI finished the install on the 6.4 gallon tank. If anyone else is considering getting one rest assured that Eric is now an expert at installing the tank. I only rode the bike home from the shop so these are just first my first impressions.

Tank had 5 gallons and I am running the full 2-1 system.

1. HOLY CRAP, the intake noise is insanely loud with no airbox. Loud intakes save lives And, those pods are pretty f'ing nice on the eyes.
2. Hey this bike got a bit top heavy Even with the 5 gallons it still feels smaller and turns quicker than my Multistrada. I noticed the added weight more when I was pushing the bike rather than riding it.
3. Is it the added weight, the new steering damper or both that makes the bike seem a little more stable
4. Eric warned me I would lose a little of that neck snapping rush and I did. You need to get on the gas a bit more from the get go without the engineered airbox. He told me I'd probably gain a little at the top though. I'll try that out next time we hit the desert straights Also, the new intake system seems to have reduced the remaining throttle snatch and the on/off nature of the bike. I'll know better tomorrow when I run up and down the mountain a few time.
5. Fit and finish are excellent. The shop had no troubles with the install and it seems all the screw holes were in all the right places.

Tomorrow's ride will begin with the tank topped off and I'll see how the bike feels as the fuel level drops. I'm curious if I'll feel the need to have the suspension adjusted with all the extra weight. I'll write up my second impressions when I get back from riding and watching Ducati win three of tomorrows four televised races.

Be safe out there

Looking forward to hear your impression of the new tank, B666...

On the upside of being a bit tight wid-de-cash (at the moment), I get to hear all the evals on all the goodies you fine folks are installing.

So to all here that take the time do write ups, mucho thanks.

Luckily with my fucked body held together with Ti metal I am happy to hop off at 175 -180 km to fill her and relieve me.

Any idea how much of a HP loss is involved when ditching the airbox?

Hey B666, congrats on the new tank.

I would like to know with just 1-2 gallons of gas, can you still feel a weight difference?

It's only the weight of the additional 3.2 gallons of fuel that matters. On average, a gallon of gas weighs 6+/- lbs., so figure 18+ lbs. over a full stock tank.

I am not sure what difference 1-2 gallons would make since it is the same basic tank design. Most of the weight is added under the seat, so it will have a lower center of gravity.

Out!

is that a passive aggressive statement referring to lack of sexual stamina?

It only took some 6-8 litres (1.44 gallons) last time to own 554 hectares (887 acres)

The irony of your post is that it was on ANZAC day (yesterday for you USA lot) at 2.13pm in the afternoon she burst into flames 4 years ago to the day.

... and now I have a black bike ... no-one will know if it is burnt or not other than being complete
