Good deal or not? Trading my ST3 for a Hypermotard
Made the decission to move over to a HM and found one but wanted to get some input on if it's a good deal or not.
Deal is: My bike (2005 ST3, 7,500 miles, clean, Leo Vince CF slip-ons, otherwise stock) plus $2,000 cash for a super-clean 2008 Hypermotard with about 5k miles on it (also stock but needs new tires). The Kbb trade-in for my bike is $5,750 and I may be able to get $7,000 for it on the open market, but that's a crap shoot given this economy.
Good deal or not??

I always like to think there is a considerable amount of value in just not having to sell a vehicle to buy another. it's true that you don't get the same value trading in, but there sure is a lot less stress and time wasted on tire kickers, stale markets (now), etc.
How many miles on yours?

don't do it. the Hyper will cost you alot of money...think about it.....wheelie tickets, endo tickets, riding improperly on the street tickets, and the list goes on and on. Insurance premiums go up.......Can you really afford a Hyper?

.....and all of this can be offset by grin factor credits calculated on a per minute basis, won't be long and you will have far more credit than costs which just seem to drift away ..... and needless to say I hate my bike with all the love in the world

I think your bike may be worth a little more than 5700. I have a Hyper and
an ST. Clean STs for sale are very hard to find. Anyway you go though you will have
a great bike.

If you can't keep both bikes, I think it sounds like a fair deal. Not a steal, but you won't be gettin screwed either. My $.02.

it's a buyers market for certain in the used motorcycle marketplace but let me say this; they're not even buying.
you might get more, but you won't get much more, and the time value of money and hassle is worth something. my problem was that my dealership didn't have the used bike that i wanted at the time, so buying new was the only alternative which i didn't want to pursue. the interesting this is this: if you have the time, and you wait out the right buyer, it can be a pleasurable and rewarding ($) experience, at least it was that way, this time, for me.
keep both if you can
