Used 2008 Hyper Purchase - Guidance Please

Hi All,

I am getting ready to buy a used 2008 hyper (~900 miles, Standard). The current owner took the belt covers off. I plan on putting them right back on (he has all the factory parts). Since I am not too familiar with the set-up of the belts I would like to hear from all you if the picture looks ok.

In particular, of the 2 the belt tension devices (sorry, don't know what they are officially called), only one has a bolt and I want to confirm is that is the way it left the factory. Yes, the other set of belt tension devices also have only one bolt.

FYI - I know that the 1 belt cap is not seated properly. The photo was taken as they were being installed.

Other than that the bike is pristine and gorgeous!

Since there were no replies to this thread I decided to call the dealership (Alan at Spectrum Motorsports in Irvine) and ask them. Alan was super nice, and asked their mechanic who confirmed by taking the timing-belt cover off of their demo Hyper.

The lower tensioner is not supposed to have a bolt as it is flanged to stay attached to the engine. Only the top one has a bolt.

Here is another photo I found online which corroborates this:

Thanks again to Alan @ Spectrum Motorsports.

Jindi, before you buy this HM, make sure it does not have a problem which some HM`s have, The engine quits, stalls to zero rpm, dies, or whatever you want to call it, just when it pleases, specially when you are at slow speed.
Mine does it more when releasing the cluth from o miles, or when decelerating and braking. It has being mentioned here and other forums, others have had the same problem with all kinds of stories on how to get rid of it.
My dealer acted dumb when I asked them about it before in the first 500 miles, but everybody knew about it. Thats Ok. Ducati never answered my emails which were very respectfull and polite. Thats OK. I keep riding my Auto Shut Off HM and it`s got over 7k on it. I don`t care, I just live with it, but if I can help somebody I will, so be carefull and ask the seller about it.

johnnymotocros, thanks for the heads-up. I saw a thread on this issue too. The problem is - how do I determine this? I am supposed go get the bike this weekend and I've ridden it 2x but only for quick test rides. In order for me to really test it I'd have to get the bike warmed-up...I guess that would not take too long.

Someone mentioned the possibility of this problem being related to a subset of Hypers which we could nail down to a VIn range but that sounds like it would be a lot of work to figure out.

Is there any other ways I can tell if this Hyper is affected?

Stalling is fixed by adjusting the idle air bleeds on the injectors. check the archives.
