Just venting

So I bought my Hyper about 2 weeks ago brand new (08 model). I rode it for a week, accumulated about 300 miles on it, and in that time noticed an issue with the shifter. It wouldn't go into second or first gear very easily. So I took it to the dealership and they took it for a ride and confirmed the issue. But they also mentioned a loud knocking sound when riding it. They weren't sure what it was, so they kept it for a couple more days to fix the shifting, and diagnose the problem. Now they're saying it might be a rod knock, and there's a chance that they'll have to split the case and replace some innards.

Looks like I'll be out of a bike for a few weeks. What timing. I bought this thing so I wouldn't have to worry about breaking down on my SXV. Now my SXV is in the shop for a head gasket leak, and my Duc is in for rod knocking. What luck! I may have to buy ANOTHER bike while I'm waiting for these things to get fixed.

Hate to say it, but that is one of the reasons I keep my old Suzuki around - just seems to run no matter how much I ignore her

yeah, a few of us have had the shifter issue. Something to do with an improperly aligned part in the shifter or transmission or something. In my case it also managed to chip some gears so I had that to deal with. sorry to hear about your knock issues.

Be sure to tell your Ducati dealer to fasttrack the fixes and part ordering because your bike's so new and riding season etc. The do that for good will or something one customer per dealer per month or something like that.
