Engine oil recommendations
I'm getting ready to do my oil change very soon. I read in the manual the hyper uses 10w40, the dealer said to put 10w50? I also wonder which brand is the best to help maintain the engine, Motorex, Maxima, Silkolene, Castrol, Repsol or Motul? The bike already had the 600 service. I will be using the K&N filter. Thanks in advance.

There is no "best" oil.
I use Bel-Ray 10W-40 full synthetic.

I started out with motul 10w40 and it was ok.
I switched to mobil 1 v-twin but the tranny shifted a little notchy.
Switched back to motul 10w50 this time and it shifts as smooth as silk again.

It's Italian...
~
Extra Virgin Olive Oil... Some feel you need to go with only the very best Italian boutique brands, like Ollio or Casale Tuscano, because it's a Ducati - but I have found some of the exceptional California olive oils to work just as well along with exuding a fine aroma while riding. Try Allure Estates or Lucero...
Any one of these should get you really "cooking"...
Probably the only thing you really need to remember is that you really don't have to run what is referred to as a "motorcycle specific" oil in your Hypermotard. Since it has a dry clutch you don't have to fear the additives and "friction modifiers" that can cause clutch slippage in bikes with wet clutches. Honestly, any good quality 15W-50 or 20W-50, whether car or bike, and you'll be fine.
That said, I pretty much use Shell Rotella diesel oil in all my bikes. Regular mineral/dino Rotella during break-in and for the first couple of thousand miles, then Rotella T synthetic from then on. It's commercial grade, consistent, easy to find, and very inexpensive compared to all those "specialty" oils. Diesel oils don't have the car "friction modifiers" in them, but I have never seen any excessive wear, nor had any lubrication related failures, using either Rotella...
Doesn't smell as good as the olive oil, though.

Thanks for the responses. I'm going with 10w40 as specified in the manual. Has anyone tried Silkolene? Is is as good as it is expensive?

My choice, 10W40 Mobil 1 or Amsoil
You can use any good quality full syn "Motorcycle specific oil" in you bike.
just change it often, I change mine at every 2500mi. Aloha Alex

I've used silkolene for the 600mi. change, and it worked fine. Good shifting. Switched to some castrol synth and it feels the same.
