Fuel Range, whats the issue

I have had a number of bikes over the years and apart from a Trumph Tiger I have been used to filling up at around 100 miles, I have done a couple of runs on the Hyper over the past 2 weeks and no fuel light, despite a total journeys of some 90 miles, anyway on tour I like to stop every 80 miles or so,

I run 2-1-2 termis, LV de-cat, Piper Cross Air Filter

The MCN has just dropped through the letter box, with a 4 way test this week of a BMW 1200GS, Honda VFR800, KTM SMT and a GSX-R750, they did a tank range test, to reserve, when thrashed, interesting results

BMW 1200GS 120
Honda VFR 800 125
KTM SMT 130
GSX-R 750 105

I never hear people moaning about these bikes ranges or fitting larger tanks, just my thoughts

It's just a personal taste I guess. I travel in Germany a lot and it's common there is 60km's or so between gasstations. So you have to fill up long before the fuel light turns on.

I do not like the idea to plan my trip from gasstation to gasstation, so want some reserve.

The Sporsters with the peanut tank were Famous for short range mileage ,just an inconvienence. Nice to have a buddy with a 5 gallon tank to ride with.

probably cause "most people" (might) ride a little more civilized, why bother thrashing a bike to find out its economy, sort of hypocritical isn't it?? magazines are running out of things to do maybe....

ridden on varied throttle my current 1200GS would triple the range of the Hyper going the same pace... those (mag) tests are most likely more entertainment than scientific!

1st off there is a big differance in 80 miles and 105 mile atleast in my part of the world. Next people do moan about the range on those bikes.... BMW has put out an entire line of panier tanks for the GS.
and the VFR800 get more like 200 miles to a tanks, its a touring bike

You should have heard the cry of outrage on the Tiger forums when Triumph changed the '07 Tiger tank to 5.5 gallons from the previous 6.5 gallons. As Kingsnake points out, range depends a lot on what part of the world you're from, and the availability of gas. In the western US, you really need a bit more range than 100 miles, unless you plan pretty carefully. That said, I don't use the HM to tour on, so it's not a problem for me.

Another good reason is my proximity to gas stations that have ethanol free gas. There aren't any real close to me, so one trip every now and then to fill up makes a whole lot of sense when I don't have to go back and forth every 90 miles or so.

Fuel Range

I did once over 175 Km before the light going on.
That's about 108 milles for you guys in the USA................
My average speed was about 120 kph.........
I think it was pretty

we've gone over this one before... count yourself lucky if you are getting anywhere near 100 miles out of a tank. my light is on at around 70 miles.
that's with termi 2-1, dp airbox, filter, ecu, 14t sprocket, dyno tuning.

I either ride like a maniac or there is something wrong with my bike. I have a stock Hyper (engine and exhaust wise) and my fuel light comes on around 100 KILOMETERS every single time. That's only about 60 miles. At that point, it always accepts 10 - 11L of fuel depending on how long I ride with the light on.
