Blinking red light - Ducati.ms

Hey, so I've had this Duc for a couple weeks now, and as I'm getting used to it, I'm becoming curious about things. So now my question is what's the deal with the blinking red light on the dash when I turn off the bike. I read somewhere that it's an immobilizer, but found no details for how it works. Is it just a system that keeps you from hot wiring the bike when there isn't a key? How safe is it? Should I get a secondary system like a lojac? Thanks.

Yep its shows the imobiliser is functioning. Other than that who knows, I just know its there.

There is a copper coil/ring under the ignition key cover that is part of the security. The only reason I know this is because when I fitted the Scott damper I damaged it. The Scott replacement cover is a loose fit and sometimes it can work itself upwards and the bike wont start. Need to push the Scott cover home to start bike.
You have to remove the coil from the original cover and place it in the Scott one. Pretty tricky to remove and easy to damage, its fragile. A simple remedy would be super glue or silicone, havent got round to it yet.
