PR2 with PP Combo??

Hello everyone. It is getting time for me to get new shoes for the hyper; It came with BT014s, pretty good tires (3000 and counting). I read that some people are putting PR2 on the rear and PP on the front tire, anyone here with that combo? yay, nay? I commute to work daily (freeway) and weekend twisty riding so i need a tire that will last but also sticky enough for the weekend riding that really doesnt make the wife proud.
Thanks in advance.

I really like my PP 2CTs , but they wouldn't be good for commuting (expect 3k or less on the rear and 5-6K for the front).

I have a couple of buddies I ride with and they ride pretty hard and one of them commutes on his bike as well. They both really like the Bridgestone BT016s for good mileage for commuting (5000+ on the rear) and excellent grip in the twisties.

I may try them next time around, but its hard to pass on the 2CTs if mileage isn't a concern.

Bridgestone Battlax BT021 Sport Touring Radial Tires
Designed for touring oriented riders wanting serious performance and high mileage
Luxury feel combines advantages of both sport tire and touring tire to provide luxury and good feedback during aggressive riding
New front and rear pattern designed to provide good shock absorption with less vibration and noise to minimize fatigue on longer rides
Rear tire is Dual Tread Compound with Cap Base Construction providing mileage from center compound and grip from shoulder compound, while enhancing tread stiffness for better grip, shock absorption, and all-weather performance
Compares to the Dunlop D220, Michelin Pilot Road, Pirelli Diablo Strada, Metzeler Z6 Roadtec

Check these out, they are the high mileage 016. and typically run $20-40 cheaper than the 016 tread pattern isn't bad either

I am using a BT021 rear and a BT014 front. I seriously can't tell the difference between the 21 and the 14 that I replaced. I even used the combo on the morning half of a track day. The tire did start to overheat, so I switched to the track bike. I imagine I could've added more air and messed with the suspension a bit too, so the tire isn't completely at fault.

I've used Metzeler Z6 roadtec rears with M1 fronts on my old TLR too. I will use a ST rear and supersport front combo on every street bike from now on. I typically get the same mileage out of a rear ST tire as I do with a SS front.

FYI, I am not the fastest guy out there, but I do ride in the advanced group on track days.

Doon is running that combo and loves it, we have very aggressive sharp tar seal here and it seems to be lasting pretty well, no problem with traction that is for sure.

freezer,

That makes a lot of sense and may be the answer for me as well. I need something that will stand up to 2-3 days commute a week and still be reasonably sticky for weekend riding. My BT014s are hammered and I'm thinking either the BT021/BT016 combo, or a set of Scorpion Syncs. My brother has them on his Buell and they look hardly worn @ over 4K miles.

I have Syncs on my Tard, they have taken a beating but are showing the signs now, I think I will get 5000 kms out of the rear before it is stuffed, our tar is very abrasive tho.

Syncs are a great wet and cold road tyre and who cares about shingle, game on!!

One thing that is great is the taller more rounded carcass makes for much quicker turning and dropping in in the tight stuff, down side is the chicken strips are harder to wipe off.

Not a biggy tho, people think you are a nanna until they try and keep up then realize you have lead them into a false sense of security

Yeah, me too. The price is right, and considering how and where I ride I doubt the tire will be a limitation.
