What should 600 mile service cost?
I am taking my S in for the 600 mile first service. What should I expect to pay? I am sure there are variances, but I want to make sure my dealer's prices are inline. Thanks!

I was quoted $190 in northern california, but I think it is mostly an oil change, lube chain, and check this and that sort of operation....
I will prolly do my own...the oil change ducati video on youtube tells all. It was easy.

The prices here are all over the place. One dealer is $200 and another performance Ducati shop quoted be $800. Now with $800 service you get a lot more, but probably not enough to justify the extra cost in my opinion. What are you getting quoted?

I paid $230 including tax and shop supplies... at Pure Ducati in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. It shouldn't cost any more than that... Just make sure you find a shop with good customer service... I would rather find a shop with good mechanics and good customer service than look for a cheaper one. Jeff at Pure, works on my bike and rides a Hyper himself... they've treated me great.

I just went through the list of what constitutes a 600 mile service. Check fluids, tire pressures, change oil, etc. Easy, peasy...
The one that does have me slightly stumped is the chain tension. I am measuring from the center pin of the chain link to the bottom of the chain guard, but....which bottom? There is an outer bottom edge, and there is a step, creating two inner bottoms of the chain guard. It is supposed to measure 30-33 mm. Mine measures more like 40 mm from the outer (first) bottom edge, and exactly 32 from the second one. I am measuring at the dog-leg junction of the two guards...
Even if it were loose...owner's manual does not show how to tighten.

the chain adjustment thing confuses me as well. I just keep it about as tight as I would any other bike. I hope someone will be along shortly to give you a much more concise answer.
I would've done my first service myself, but I needed my ECU, TPS, and TB's sync'd with the addition of my termi exhaust. They put in $12/quart fully synth. racing oil for christ's sakes. It is an air cooled dry clutched engine. It doesn't need that crap.
Mine cost me $360 or so. I wasn't a happy camper.

When I picked up my filter and oil at the dealer....I snuck up on a display hyper and measured the chain distance...Mine is a little loose (2-3 mm), as compared to their brand new bike.
The one thing I did not do was to clean off the cartridge /internal oil filter. It looks like the header needs to come off for it to come out. Next oil change. Mine has 2500 miles on it right now.
