Hyper questions
Hey Folks,
I currently own a Speed Triple that I like very much. Having said that I've always liked the HyperMotard and I'm currently contemplating getting one, probably as a second bike.
So with that in mind I have a few questions and probably more to follow.
My dealer does not have any 09 models.
1-My local dealer is selling an 08 model for $10700. Good price or too high ? what's a reasonable price to shoot for right now ?
2-This dealer also has an 08 S version available (Don't know the price), again what price should I be looking at ?
3-Going for a Test ride this week (weather permitting), what should I expect (in terms of ride) versus my Speed Triple, if anyone knows ?
Thanks

i currently own both, the speed triple is quite a bit more quicker but riding stance is still somewhat crotch rocketish,on the other hand the hyper really pulls in midrange and handeling and stance is what makes this baby kick but.so if your going to have both this is the way to go.i have the s model with about 5000 in extras now but when i bought mine in late 07 they were tryn to get almost 18000 for a s after leavn the store a couple of times i ended up coming back and payn 14200 otd.now i think you can work em pretty good right now dont let your guard down they need to move bikes.

1) It might be a good deal if its 10700 OTD but otherwise a bit too high. you can find some slightly used ones for cheaper and good mods.
2) the S model starts at about 15,000 or so I really dont know what is a realistic price for a new 08 S. I would guess at least try to get it 15g OTD but somebody else can help you with that.
3) I have never ridden the speed triple, I come from an 848 and test rode it the other day and it is WAY different than a sport bike it might take some time to get used to the riding position. you will see how different it is once you start riding the bike. its really torquey and might not be as fast as your speed triple but you will definitely feel that it pulls hard.

Base or "S" model are both equally fun and capable of embarrassing many a sport bike in the fun stuff. The torque is really ridiculous and addicting on such a light bike. Imagine a CBR600RR with RC51 torque! Get the base if you don't want the lighter wheels, Superbike monoblock calipers, Ohlins shock, c/f and tin coated fork. I purposely said want because if you compare the base to the "S", in my opinion, any difference in performance is negligible and will not reduce your riding experience! That said, I have the "S" because I wanted the Brembo monoblocks calipers and lighter wheels and because I would upgrade the base to with all the "S" goodies later anyway.

I have read people getting a base model for less than $10k and a "S" model for less than $12k with $2500 exhaust. I don't know how much this is truth vs. stretching the truth After all, this is the internet!

I just got mine OTD for $14500 (S model). I think this is a pretty good price. I was also looking at one in Montana that was going to be $14500 OTD, but they don't have sales tax. I think if you can get under sticker OTD, you're doing pretty good. JMHO.

here is what i can offer:
1-My local dealer is selling an 08 model for $10700. Good price or too high ? what's a reasonable price to shoot for right now ? good deal if like mentioned that is OTD pricing I've seen some for as low as $8.5K with nice mods and about 8K miles... As the economy get worst you will see more up on the block.
2-This dealer also has an 08 S version available (Don't know the price), again what price should I be looking at ? Down south you can get an S model for $13.5 (no real deal) but you have to add all the stupid Ducati dealer crap and it ends up close to 1k more...
3-Going for a Test ride this week (weather permitting), what should I expect (in terms of ride) versus my Speed Triple, if anyone knows ? having had a triumph the diff is night and day. As stated a 600RR withan RC51 mill... handles like a sports bike and is great to ride...
hope this helps.. and enjoy the demo!

I just bought an S last week and looked at all dealers withing 300 miles from me. I ended up with prices from 15,500 to 13,900 OTD.
I looked for a used one, but could not find one and got too impatient. In the end, I like it so much, I am glad I bought it new.

First off, Thanks for all the responses
I went and test rode an S model today. Wholly @#%* !!!
As soon as I came back the owner of the dealership asked me :
"Do you now know why this is everyone's favorite bike in here ?"
I said : "Oh yeah, I get it".
This bike attacks corners like nothing else. Super torque in every gear, great braking, you quickly get very confident on this bike. Everything seems so instinctive and natural.
First offer by the salesman is $10500 +Tax for the Standard version
$12500 + Tax for the S version
Both are 0 miles 08 models.
At this time, I'm leaning more in the direction of the Standard version but I'm going to go for another test ride in a few days so ...
Again, thanks for everyone's input.

I just got back from buying the standard today and paid 10200 otd (plus tax). I think that's a pretty fair deal. Good luck!
