848 to hyper

Hey guys. Today I went to Atlanta Motor World to get a test drive on a hyper S. There was the Ducati demo truck and we were going for a 40 minute ride around backroads. I got on a black hyper S with dual termis. First thing that I noticed the clutch was slipping, I knew it was a demo bike so i did not care that much. the bike is got plenty of power but never pushed it hard because the group was controlled. well now to the point.

the bike has awesomely smooth linear power. Not as much as my 848 but more than enough. down low was incredible but because of this i couldnt find a comfortable stance to sit and not feel like I was getting thrown of the bike. turn in feels way quicker than my 848.

the thing is I liked it but I dont know if its enough to buy one. same thing happened with my 848 and now I cant stop loving it.

Does it take time to get comfy on the bike and get used to it???

Did you fell in love with yours on the first ride or did you have to ride it a couple times.

I thought it was awesome but I was maybe expecting something else, I think there might be something wrong with me.

I WANT TO BELIEVE THE HYPE!!!

I test rode both bikes. I went with the hyper since it has more useable torque for around town and I didn't want to own two sport bikes. The 848 is quick but requires the engine to spin up a bit; power/torque isn't great below 5k rpms. Coming from an RC51, I thought turn-in was great for the 848, very nimble and lightweigt. The hyper is even better, all while sitting comfortably upright. While the riding position is great, it's less than desired for freeway riding. Also, a 2 Valved oil cooled engine is very unique, both in sound and riding experience.

The overall package of the hyper equals a pleasurable riding experience. I might have to sell my RC51 since I don't ride it as much.

If you pick up a hyper, make sure you pickup a CA-Cycleworks gas tank to extend the range. The stock gas tank is the only problem, limted to 3 gallons limits your riding.

the sound part is SO TRUE man. That termi exhaust note was unique unlike my 848 that is nice too but its different. I did not check if the termis still had the bafflers on. If thats the case I would take em off right away. Oh and BTW turned my 848 on for a few seconds without the exaust WOWWW that think rocks.

anyways since the test drive was at low speed I could not hang off the bike as i like to and did not feel how comfortable it really was for cornering.

about the torque down low, it is different from my 848 because I put on the 14t sprocket and that thing revved hard from 4k up and with the termis.

still trying to convince myself that this is the bike that I should own but the test drive wasnt exhilarating as i thought it would be with 50 mph long turns.

I own both. Bot the Hyper because I wanted the 2nd bike to be as different from 848 as possible. The sound is definitely special. I don't even bother to swap 848 out of track plastics anymore.

the hyper gets ridden more often than the 848

the hypers my ugly child and the 848 she's too gorgeous to sell and is my preferred bike on the track.

this has become a very tough decision for me. I think I havent had enough time on the hyper and it felt so weird to me when I rode it. I actually like it, specially the sound. I am even considering to wait for the streetfighter but I think it might be too much for the mountains. I would think that the hyper is more fun in the mountains that the 848 but im so used to my 848 that it is hard for me to get used to the upright possition.

besides, of these two options I find the hyper a lot more practical since its a lot more comfortable and It is not as powerful so getting caught in the hwy at high speeds would not be that much of an issue.

In paper the hyper looks like the bike I need to suit my needs. but I am afraid that it will not get me the excitement i get from my 848. bad thing is that the 848 is totaled and I have to choose between one or the other.

not meaning to make your decision any more difficult but since you are replacing the 848 have you considered the 1198s

I test rode both as well and ended up with the hyper... I just brought it home 4 weeks ago and up until this weekend I was worried that I had made the wrong decision. Coming form a gsxr600 it felt, I don't know, wrong. I loved the torque but there was just something odd about the way it leaned compared to a sportbike. Since it felt weird, I had no confidence and would go much slower on roads that I know. On the sportbike, you are crouched down into a little piece of two wheeled insanity. On the hyper, you are a lot taller and just kind hanging out there.... To me, it felt like I was leaning way further than I really was... But this weekend, when I finally had a beautiful, sunny day to really ride it in the canyons, I fell in LOVE with this bike. I finally stopped pussing out and just leaned it and finally got rid of that two inch chicken strip. This bike feels incredible through the turns once you have the confidence to lean it over.

I am definitely ecstatic with my decision to get a hyper. I have absolutely no regrets.

Maybe one day I will get rid of my gsxr and get a ducati superbike...

848 is great for the track, Hyper is the perfect street machine! It did take me a while to get used to the riding position, but now I wonder how I could've had it any other way all of these years.

I still have trouble contorting myself to ride my track R6 on trackdays after riding the hyper.

as swanny said, on the hyper you really have to 'get on it' to get the best out of this machine
