Did the Hyper Eat the Bolt?

A few days ago I had the shock out to replace the plastic pre-load collar and to set the spring pre-load. When it was time to re-install the shock I couldn't find the lower fixing fastener; I have a very active Maine Coon cat that likes to help me and has his own idea of how much fun it is to chase shiny things into obscure parts of my basement studio; so I usually protect such innocent things, but never fail to blame the cat for my failing memory; he loves the spare Norton exhaust valve cover and it's big enough so that "we" can always find it...

Anyway. I ordered another bolt, staked it onto the allen socket and started to feed it into the swingarm. When it was about 2 inches in it encountered an obstruction; I poked it around and then heard something "fall" into the swingarm...freaking me out. I opened up the parts CD and saw no spacers and no other hardware. After that everything bolted up as expected...

Here's the question: Can the lower shock fixing bolt fall into the swingarm?? If so is there anyway to get it out without removing the swingarm?

Thanks for your consideration,

RS

I remember a thread on this about a year ago. Bolt was lost in the swingarm by someone else. Sorry, I don't have the answer on how to get it out without taking the swingarm off, or flipping the bike upside down and shaking the s&*% out of it.

The Hall of Knowledge Gets Bigger...

Thanks guys. I was hoping that you would tell me that the swing arm was only large enough for a prayer to fit inside; the way I ride sometimes that could be useful...

So I had the thankless task of telling my cat that his prank was neither creative or original. I did get out today and found that the extra weight was only noticeable when executing a 10G turn at mach II, so I guess I can live with it...

What a shitty design!!!
