Handle bar mount, How tight! Help
Just got a scotts steering damper and actually called SCOTTS directly to find out how tight the two lower bolts should be for the sub mount. they couldnt tell me, just tight enough is what they said and its not in the instructions either
so I looked around the site and came across a PDF that said 45nm, is this a good number? the new mount is a bit higher than the stock one and wobbles a bit when the bar is fully installed, I did notice a rubber bushing in the triple clamp. is this safe! will my bolts break off while I ride, if tightened too much. just frustrated for now and wont ride until I can solve this. any help is appreciated, thanks
Pic borrowed, not my beer and my towel had sponge bob on it.

Just my opinion but nothing about the bars or mount should "wobble". I don't think the torque would be any different because you added a steering damper.

Anyone have this installed? any problems. The bar does move back and forth a bit if you pay attention because it has a cush drive where the bolts go through only it's more noticeable because the mount is higher. Just concerned that only two bolts hold and steer a 350+ lb machine travelling at high speeds

Mati-O,
It may sound like a PITA, but break it all down again and see if you over looked something. I do not like the look of the space under the clamps.
IMHO.

Ok took it all apart and put the old one back on, still the same gap and its not the damper mount, just those two shafts that the 10mm bolts go through. they dont compress when you tighten the bolts. The wobble isnt as noticeable like the Scotts mount. I tried the Scotts without the washers and then the damper was too low so nothing I can do and hope for the best for now. I think I'll just put those little clear round rubber pads that you put on stuff so you wont scratch your table. in between the gap to keep the barmount from leaning too far forward or backwards.

I went to garage and yours looks the same as mine. Just a suggestion Look up the torque for a similar size fastener and try that and see how it feels. I know you would like to be exact ..Looks really good

I will look at mine as well but it's late and raining hard here. I went exactly by their instructions and took about 30 mins to install no problems works great.

Yes, there should be a little wobble. At least mine do. If you have the front brake on, you should be able to twist the bars a very little left to right, and up and down. The bar clamps are rubber mounted to the top tripple tree to limit vibration to your hands. This is with the stock bar clamps. No SCOTT SCOTT mount.
