engine temerature and oil change observation
I did an oil change at 600 miles using repsol synthetic blend. The bike temperature was always around 200+- few degrees.
a couple of days ago the temperature started reaching 240 and at the same time the bike got about 3K so last night I decided to do an oil change and put some repsol full synthetic race oil.....this morning the bike reached 204 max temperature.....
I guess you can use the bike temperature has gauge for when to do an oil change....yet that oil only lasted 2500 miles.....

mobile 1 car oil here and I havn't even gotten to 200 yet since the change. It is cold as shit here yet, so I am sure that plays a huge variable.

I did the 600 mile service, then 2500 miles oil changes. Easy to remember.......cheap maintenance. I run Motorex 10w50 synthetic and I don't think I have seen temps higher than 260* and that was running pretty hard in the Arizona heat. Most of the time she runs 210-140*.
Out!

What I've noticed with oil temps on this bike is that air movement is the big
factor. Slow speeds and lots of traffic lights= high temps. Soon as you get out
on the open road the temps drop off, often more than 25-30 degrees. Apparently,
these big air-cooled motors don't like to sit still too much on a hot day.
It would've been good to have a slightly larger oil cooler on there from the
factory, too.

We made these we deflectors which helps the air flow through the cooler rather than around it.
Dropped my open road temperature by 8 - 10 deg C on the open road.
And it is clean now too BTW

Actually, the highest temps I seen was running 85+mph for a sustained period coming back into town from the mountains north of Phoenix in the summer months. I don't ride a lot around town, but temps don't get overly hot around town for me.
Out!
