Fuel mileage

So, my tard is bone stock and last tank, I got 22 mpg. Is this normal for extended high speed operations? Say 70-80mph. I pulled one plug to get a look at it, and it looks dang near like one you'd get out of a new package. No colors to read at all. Or do I need to go to my nearest dealer for some warranty work?

22 mpg is most assuredly not normal. The standard range of mileage I see on summer fuel is about 37-42 mpg. The worst I've ever seen on summer fuel involved chasing Gixxers over a couple of passes in Nevada still yielded 32 mpg, at speeds above the 70-80 mph you reference. Back to the dealer.

Good luck,

Kurt

Are you going by the odometer or the trip meter for mileage? Make sure the two match up because there was an issue with the trip meter not reading the correct mileage on 2008 models. It reads low so it appeared that the bikes were getting really bad fuel mileage instead of just mediocre mileage.

+1

22mpg is totally unfathomable especially since your plugs are not as black as the sacred night.

I get in the low to mid 40s consistently.

You were right. I compared the 2 this morning and found that 20 miles on the Odo. was equal to about 11-12 miles on the trip meter.

Your dealer can fix that with a simple reflash of the on board computer.

I might need to check that, too. I've always been getting yardage on mine. I just thought it was because I just keep going full throttle / off throttle / full throttle so I can listen to the noise
