rusty fasteners

In January I installed the DP mirrors and hand guards on my HM. Now, just two months later, the fasteners and mirror stalks are rusting! Is there no rain in Italy? Do they not ride outdoors there? What the hell? Am I going to have to paint over everything with Rustoleum?

The stock plated steel fasteners probably cost 0.04p each and look good for a short while. personally I personally changed all my engine bolts to grade a2-70 stainless steel and all of the bolts elsewhere to titanium (got a good deal)

Stainless a2 - 70 looks good but can "tea stain" BUT NOT RUST. pay around 0.20p per bolt.

Stainless a4 - 70 is the better grade. It will not tea stain or rust. Pay around 3x the amount.

Titanium its the dogs dangles.. pay around 15x the amount but worth it.

If you are in the UK try stigs fasteners or bolt me up, but for polished stainless with no stamping marks it has to be pro-bolt.

I also changed all of the jubilee clips on the coolant hoses to a4 grade stainless which I sourced from my local ships chandlery (I live in a port city).

For not a lot of money it freshened up the look of my bike and I would recommend it. Being a "Yorkshireman" I did shop around for a good price on the bolts.

Why do I feel such redemption when some other poor soul has trouble with
his DP parts? Misery loves company?

You know, this friend of mine was riding down in TJ when his Duc got nabbed
by a gang of desperados with a chop shop. He followed the Lo-Jack signal
to a warehouse, and all that was left was a greasy dumpster filled with Lo-Jacks
and some third-rate carbon fiber with rusty allen-head hardware.

My buddy tried to sell some of the crappy rear huggers to get enough money
for a bus ticket back, but everyone on the street kept giving him the crossed
index fingers and "No DeePeee!! No DeePee!!"
Desperate and alone, our hero scraped up enough change for dinner and met
a mangy one-eyed Labrador that would become his constant companion.
My friend decided to share some of his re-frieds with the pooch and scraped
the beans into an DP handguard. Miffed, the hound pee-ed on the poorly
finished carbon fiber and stalked off, never to be seen in the ghetto again.

A true story... don't laugh, it could happen to you...

LOL. A good parable.

Someone ought to set up a company that sells exact replica DP accessories, BUT, with proper fit and finish!

Parable-- what??! My buddy just phoned and is still being held captive in a
Senor Frog's, being forced to take tequila shots by two umbrella girls
with bullet belts full of shot glasses. He seems to have forgotten about
the stolen Duc...

Yeah, my DP mirrors were rusting too, Dealer thought they were a one off problem, they replaced them under warranty. Post rainy season, the same rust on new mirrors. LOL!

I wiped them with some WD-40 but that's a lame solution to a problem that shouldn't happen.

I should spray some black paint on the parts at some point to seal them properly....or switch them out with cheaper but higher quality parts....LOL...

LOL. Perhaps we should arrange a group ride down there to 'rescue' him!

The same happened with mine. The dealer replaced them.
They are starting to rust again - I will take them back again!
