what do you guys pay a year for insurance?
forgive me if it's been covered a hundred times before.... but i'm at work and i'm so happy right now i had to share this-
a few weeks ago, i call my insurance agent to get a quote on my 08 hyper s. i was shocked to hear around $1200 for a year of full coverage with $500 deductibles... seeing as my 08 versys only ran around $230. so i check around and geico quotes me somewhere in the neighborhood of $800 for comparable coverage (my ins. company is amfam, i have 2 cars, a boat, and a house covered by them) so i tell my agent i need them to look into the price, as i'm going to go with geico if you can't budge on price.
fast forward a few weeks. last thursday i call my agent, tell him i need it covered the next day (it was gonna be nice out) but only want monthly coverage, as i'm going with geico (amfam never called back with a price)
they just need the vin#. i call back with the vin (directly from my certificate of origin) and they tell me it's not coming up in the system... but that it's definitely a "superbike" and will be expensive... i'm told i'm covered and they will call back the next day as soon as the vin# issue is solved.
next day, no call. by the way, rainy and cold as hell in the morning- froze my nuts off...
i get a call today (monday) my agent figured out the vin situation, it's NOT a "superbike" and my premium for the year (full coverage, $500 deductible) is a shade under $300!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i've got friends paying waaay more than that for 696 monsters... what gives? i'm not complaining!

I'm the same way...they couldn't get the bike to show in their system. I'm paying $176/yr liability through Allstate. Mine's salvage title and they won't carry full coverage on it. I maxed out all the PIP, uninsured motorist and medical care stuff since the price was right!

$1632.50 for two bikes, Hypertard and MH900e ish.
50k cover, 750 excess, hurts but I work too hard to see them turn to dust with no return.
KY is extra

There are so many variables that threads like these are not very helpful other then pointing out some companies others may not have heard of... but for the heck of it....
I pay $302/year, full coverage, with 100/200K bodily injury, 100/200K property, and a 0/comp 250/coll deductible. If I dropped everything to CA state minimums and raised the deductibles to 1000 I would pay $150/yr. USAA.

so why the wildly varying quotes from 2 of the major companies out there? (am family and geico?) i was almost releived to get a quote for $800 something when compared with american family's first shot at it. Even more confusing are 2 of my buddies, close in age or older, homeowners, etc. with smaller displacement bikes (696 monsters) that retail at a lower price, have less horsepower, and have marginally more bodywork than a hyper... yet they both pay close to the $800/yr i was quoted by geico. one of them in fact has geico, the other state farm. maybe i should tell THEM to shop around?? can a monster cost that much more to fix?

Just to let you know from the UK. I am 37 and for fully comprehensive I pay 550gbp that is for a 2004 749r. The insurance insisted that I had a tracker installed and a datatool alarm, along with a good lock etc, and it was garaged overnight. On the flipside I asked for my little moped to be added to the policy and they ask for a further 1.49p + 30.00gbp admin fee to change the policy to a multibike one.
Yes you did read it right 1.49p less than your $2 to insure my 50cc moped.
Oh and I passed my bike test twice, which makes people laugh. First time in 1992, second time in1997. I was in the army and I had to use an army bike and before I took it the MT pool guy wanted to see me ride a bike and he put me through that days testing.
Am I the only person with two official test pass certificates. Little of topic I know but age and years riding are taken into account in the UK for insurance purpose.
