Tire Question

Is it possible ot repair a nail hole in the rear tire of a 1100s? Or is a new tire in order? This one has 300 miles on it.
Thanks
Mike

Never worth the risk on a bike.

Get a new one.

I repaired one and proceeded to do 4000km on it, mine had about 100km on it when I found 5 inch bridge nail.

If you are tracking it or going absolutely hammer and tongs then maybe otherwise I would repair it with an internal mushroom.

I have the same situation, new tire with a nail. I bought a new tire, however, after I ordered the tire I decided to pull the nail out of the tire. To my surprise it didn't go through the tire. I pressurized the tire to 45psi and it held the pressure for a few days so I deemed the tire road worthy once patched. The nail was in the center of the tire not the side which makes a difference to me. If it were in the side I'd throw it out even though it didn't go through the tire.

If the nail goes through the tire I'd probably replace it as CTarna suggests. I think it would always be on my mind and distract me from riding and that's something I don't need.

Hope this helps.

Tom

My brother in-law picked up a nail in his tire on the way home from the dealer the day he bought his new bike. He plugged it, and it lasted a week until it developed a slow leak. He then patched it from the inside, and rode it like mad until the tire tread wore out after 3,000+ miles. I guess it all depends on where it is and how bad it is. I would try fixing it first. But hey, that's just me.... I don't have money...

Thumbs up Patch it.....

I wouldn't plug it unless it was an emergency, to get home or to the shop, but WOULD patch it from the inside and keep the tire, as long as the tire is not all tore up, just use your common sense. Aloha Alex

Repair it and save a lot of money.

I repaired a rear one and went a day on the track - no problems...

Patch it to get the miles outta her.

And BTW; never use those snake plugs. IMHO; no bargain.
