Slipper clutch on a Hyper... Yes or No?
Hey all,
Anyone running a slipper clutch on their Hyper? If so, is it worth the $1000 or so you spent on it? I'm talking street riding too, so its not like I need to drop the bike into first gear doing 90 on Lincoln blvd. in order to make my turn onto the 10.
My buddy has a Sport 1000 and does not seem to grasp the concept of "blipping" the throttle. I started doing this a while ago and I'm getting pretty darn good at it, though there are still times when I get the normal rear wheel chatter. According to the forum, some of you actually enjoy the a** of your bike sliding to and fro before entering a corner. I however, do not.
Anyway, slipper clutch on a hyper... worth the investment? yes or no?
Your input is greatly appreciated.

fwiw, i really like the bucci slipper i have on my hypertard. rode the hyper stock for about 1,000 miles, then moved the bucci slipper from my mh900evoluzione over to the hypertard. i like that the rear wheel will not hop even if i shift down a gear too low for entry of a corner while riding up in the twisties.
is it worth the extra money and higher maintenance? really depends on individual opinion. so, ymmv.
if you decide to go for a slipper, and it uses a spider spring to press the hub back onto the ramps ... do yourself a favor and order an extra spring or three ... they tend to break after a few thousand miles, but are easy to replace.

I havent put a slipper on my because I think there are other things worth doing before that I.E. Light weight flywheel. Make the bike feel faster, lighter, and reduces wheel hop.

i think it depends on your riding style. Some that come from a dirtbike supermoto background might prefer to leave the stock clutch in since it would be awefully difficult to back in the rear wheel with a slipper. Personally, I'd love to have a slipper because I pucker up when anything slips and have done nothing but ride roadrace style.
As for the exorbinant price? Only if the thing was a dedicated track bike. I can't see me ever needing a slipper on the street. You usually have plenty of time to match the revs before downshifting on the street. I would be much more beneficial on the track because so much is going on trying to brake at the end of a straight.

Slipper clutch
A big for the slipper clutch, now that I have one on my bike, its one of the best mods that I'v done to my bike for the handling, especially for fast canyon running or on the track, its just one less thing you have to worry about, (locking up the rear end) Aloha Alex

the slipper will actually make the bike slide more in the sense of less hop more slide, however it will make the sliding more managable of course if you are are not going to be driving hard enough to make your bike hop as you say there is need to be dropping into 1st from 90mph then you wont have any issues with hopping or sliding.
I put one in but have not had a chance to test it out as there is snow on the floor here, but I had one my last bike and loved it but I also used to race.
The Hyper has a light rear end so it is going to be more prone to getting loose, I think even if you never plan on getting the bike sideways you will be glad you have it on the chance you ever do, all it really does is keep your bike from hopping and make your sliding controlable.

A slipper on the track is worth its weight in gold.
For me, I cant justify buying a slipper for my HM that will be mainly on the street.
If I found the rear hopping regularly I probably would. I guess I'm not riding it hard enough.
Either that or I'm over consious of my speed to gear ratio.

I have the Ducati racing slipper and I LOVE IT!! The best investment I've made so far. Great for fast, tight canyons, and perfect for the track.

Thats funny, I haven't felt any "sliding" with my slipper clutch, just good o'l traction, with great control! The only time I tend to do any "sliding" is "ON THE GAS!" which can make for a butt puckering experience at speed! Aloha Alex
