anybody using exhaust wrap?
thinking of wrapping the pipes all the way back to the can (termi 2-1) mostly just because i think it looks the business...
anyone have any experience with doing this? in theory, the wrapped pipes should increase the velocity of the exhaust gasses, creating somewhat of a scavenging effect. i've used it on 2-stroke bikes to pull some heat away from the exhaust stub on bikes prone to seizures at the exhaust port with good result.
just wondering.

I wrapped my CRF450X. No noticeable performance difference. It deffinately lowers the operating temperature.
When you wash the bike, you need to fire it up and let the pipe steam off all the moisture to prevent rusting.

I think a better option would be to get them coated. I would do this if there was a local place or if I knew that the spray bomb stuff would adhere properly. Someone on here has coated headers. It might be borracho.

Check around and get local opinions on the ceramic coaters in your area; I've heard both good and bad things about some of the local shops around here.
I went with Specialized Coatings in Huntington Beach, CA:

They did a great job and was done within a week. Header wrap looks good for awhile but tends to get ratty after time.

I've used header wrap on a few of my race bikes, mainly to keep the belly pan from melting, but also for a bit of performance boost. Here are some tricks I've learned along the way:
Use the 1" wrap as it goes around corners better than the 2". It takes a bit longer to apply but the finished product is better.
Soak the wrap in water for a few hour first, it's easier to stretch around corners and shrinks for a tighter fit when dry. And use gloves as the fibers tend to get stuck under your skin, which is very irritating.
Along with the hose clamps at the start and end, I like to use safety wire every 3 to 4 inches. Just a single bit of wire just to keep the wrap in place and to prevent the whole thing from unraveling if it wears through or get torn.
To keep it nice looking, use header wrap spray paint (silver or black). Several coats will usually last a season. Remember to roll the bike outside and close all doors and windows in a 1 mile radius before you fire your bike up with the new wrap on.

i didn't know that such a thing as exhaust wrap tape paint existed! as it 'weathered' i just got used to the faded look of it... now that i know, i think i'll probably go for it. borracho's pipes look super nice in black, but somewhere in my head i can't get over the taped-up exhaust look. maybe from my ratty bike days when it actually held my exhaust together?

That is a suede seat It's the DP race seat.
Yeah; I didn't know they made wrap paint either. If you decide to do it, don't forget to post pics!

here is a good place to buy it http://www.jscspeed.com/universal/th...eader_wrap.htm They have the paint and wrap. I am kicking around doing mine, now that this thread started. Since it is too cold to ride, I want to do something in the meantime.
