Is The Hyper As Good As They Say

hi guys, just bought my new hyper and was wondering what you guys thought of your machines. Coming from a fireblade, I was afraid that i might miss the power of a sportsbike, but then i'm not really looking for crazy speeds, its style, reliability and the sit up posture that i'm looking for and i think that the hpyer has all of these quailitys and many more, Is the foot peg a bit low and easy to scrape, is there any call for a steering damper. just some of the questions that i know you guys will be able to answer

Well it is no Fireblade. Yes the pegs are a little on the low side along with a few other items. Rear sets could solve most of those problems. Yes a steering damper would be nice to add.

The power is completely different than an inline 4 sportbike. It's really torquey and and the power is down low in the rev range. The bike accelerates very fast to about 130 km/h (just as fast as my brothers 135 hp S4RS) and then it starts to taper off above that.

My bike has no chicken strips and I've yet to scrape the pegs. I have my suspension set up on the stiff side and I make sure I'm hanging off while cornering.

A steering damper would be nice at times but having the bars wiggle all over the place is half the fun! The bars do get light under hard acceleration and corner exit. The bike loves to lift the front tire so it doesn't take much to make the bars light. The bars are really wide too which accentuates the feeling of them moving around. I've yet to have any serious scares from a tank slapper.

I don't have one yet but I hear the bike really needs an aftermarket exhaust to release it's full potential. They come quite lean and choked up from the factory to meet emissions.

I've installed a Nichols lightweight flywheel which make a huge difference. The engine spools up a lot faster and the motor feels a lot snappier. Cheap mod and definitely worth it. I've also installed a DP race seat which was a good investment as well. It puts you in a better position for attacking corners and it's most comfortable than the stock seat. It also looks better.

Hope that helps.

  1. Hyper has as much grunt as a 1098 below 6,000 rpm.
  2. Set-up suspension, wiggles go away, damper not needed.
  3. California models are ultra lean, yours should be Ok
  4. Watch your license and your wife, if you have either? Things change.

I have had the opportunity of riding both my stock hyper and my friends which has been chipped with the full race system and I prefer the power output of my stock hyper, there is more torque down low, yes my friends has more on top but lacks down low.

I dont think the pegs are low I think the distance in relation to the seat makes the pegs feel low.

bike handles great stock, suspension setup would just make it better and not every bike needs a steering damper, I wouldnt mind one on the hyper but its not required.

Hope it helps, ride safe.

I love the hyper S for many of the same reasons as above. I'm still working on the forks and have made them much better than the first day. I found that in hard cornering, they would frequently try to slap and gyro...pucker factor 9. I've also experienced the lightness during hard acceleration but tucking in a little takes much of that away. I still do not trust this horse yet.

As far as fun factor by comparison of bikes that I've had in 29 years of riding, it is very near the top. But honestly, after a day's mountain riding on my 98 FE, I ask myself what so great about that hyper?

I've got a Hyper and a '98 FE also, and the Hyper is a great bike but if I had to pick one to keep it would absolutely be the FE, no contest! Come to think of it, I'd take the FE over my 1098 too! It doesn't even have anything to do with collectibility of the FE, I just really love riding that bike! The seating position is absolutely perfect, it sounds spectacular, it looks fantastic, and it's deceptively fast. It's always fun to be in a Ducati group and have guys come up to me and go all ga ga over the FE.
