New Hyper Owner! Question
Hi all,
Just took delivery of my hypermotard std 2 days ago. Actually is my first proper bike, but we have a good teacher and rental bikes until i am safe enough to ride my baby!
I have a question, probably a bit of a newbie one
The bike is an ex-demo. A collegue rode it home for me. On checking it over, we noticed that the gear lever had actually been rubbing the engine casing. Actually, the paint was rubbed all the way through at point of contact. The lever is definately not bent, so presumed just needs to be adjusted. I did notice there was quite a bit of play as well, left to right. Is it relatively easy to sort this out myself, and move the lever out a bit....to save a trip to the dealers?
Thanks in advance for your advice.....have been drooling over the bikes on this forum until mine arrived!

congratulations on your new bike. How many years experience have you had riding bikes for if this is your first machine, you will defiantly need to be carefull for the first few miles. wheeling is easy on these machines, top end is not so good but then who wants to be sittings a 180 plus mph

Thanks for the tips, and warm welcome!
Agree it is a beast for learning. Started late, and wanted something I can keep and be happy with for some time. Our instructor has a huge private area to start on, and a choice of 20 or so different bikes, of all classes.
Will be taking it very slow and easy....luckily have some very experienced friends for guidance. I live in Switzerland, and after looking at many different bikes, this seemed to be the most promising for the mountain bashing!
I will try and adjust the gear lever as you mentioned, hopefully will sort it out. Also I have large feet, so am sure some adjustment will definately improve the feel.
.....never smiled so much when walking into my garage!

I am not so certain the gear lever should be rubbing the case, no matter where the adjustment is. The adjuster should only adjust the up and down height, not the side to side movement. If it is rubbing into the gen. cover, I'd guess that either the lever retaining bolt is loose, the hole which the bolt goes though is oblong or the lever IS bent.
Have a sound mechanic check it out as I am sure you do not want to loose the ability to shift out on the road.
One a + note: Congrats and be safe. (Heed the advice above about the power of this moto...)

Hi Wilkie and welcome home!
Johnny may have given you a bum steer with his lever adjustment. Hyper have infinent adjustment via the small connecting rod between the foot lever and the selector shaft. This will only give vertical positioning choices.
As CTarna says, get your mate or a mechanic to check it out.

Thanks again guys!
I will do some adjustment today, but anyway will have it properly checked out.
The garage actually called me to say it needs to come in soon anyway. As it was ex-demo, they did the 1st service for free.....however on 950km. Once 1000km is hit the service light will come on and they need to reset it
So, I guess it will be sorted in 50km time!
Already found the necessary touch up paint i need, and where to get it thanks to these forums. Great source of information (and of course inspiration!)
