PCIII Performance
Well, I have finally gotten a few miles on my Hyper after installing and dyno tuning the bike with the PCIII. I had previously installed the DP ECU, DP lid, DNA filter, full Zard header/Top Gun pipe.
The bike is running very strong, is much smoother across the rpm range, third gear wheelies are much easier (especially with cooler temps), and roll on in top gear or while lugging a gear are much stonger.
The downside is that I am using a lot more fuel. According to my math right now I am getting like 25 mpg, while prior to the PCIII it was around 32 mpg, and before mods around 40 mpg. The endcaps around the exhaust outlets are getting coated with a brownish film, I suppose due to all the extra fuel. I wonder if it might be running a little rich, but I trust the dyno tuning work and the performance is hard to argue with.
I will check the mileage with my GPS next time out to be sure, but my odo hasn't been off by much (just a little bit low due to the Speedohealer I installed).
I still occasionally kill the bike while blipping the throttle at stop lights, in spite of the TPS reset during tuning.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Out!

Axe,
I have pretty much the same mods as you. After the custom dyno tune with the PC3 the bike felt slightly rich. I took it back in and told the dealer and they changed it a bit and now it's better. I dont think my mileage suffered much if at all. May just need to have them lean it out on the bottom-mid

I have heard amazing reviews of the PC3 ... I am almost ready to take the plung but have two questions:
Where is a good place to purchase one?
Where in SoCal can I find a knowledgable person to dyno tune the bike once the PC3 is installed?

Marco, the place for mapping the PCIII here in SoCal is Micky Cohen Motorsports, in Placentia, (714) 993-5000

Talk to your tuner and ask what he was tuning to. If he was tuning to best HP throughout you will have ended up with a A/F ratio of about 12.5:1. That's rich of stoichiometric (ideal A/F ratio) of 14.7:1, and that might be giving you the lousy mileage and the rich-burn evidence on your pipes.
Best economy is lean of stoich so you could even venture toward the best thermal efficiency A/F ratio of 17:1
Fuel map tuning isn't just a simple matter of tuning at WOT to best-power output as measured on the dyno, unless you are tuning a race-only machine where fuel consumption is not an issue.
Personally, I tune for 16-17:1 (best economy) for throttle positions of 0 - 25%, fading quickly toward 14:1 for the 25%-75% throttle positions range (stoich for optimized combustion), and then rapidly fading to 12.5:1 upward of 75% throttle positions (best power). I find that this provides optimal high end performance, reasonable milage, and that nice little roll-off rapp that I like!
YMMV

I got mine from Motorcycle Superstore and I believe it includes shipping. This is pretty close to the best price I seen and I have had good luck with them as far as customer service goes.
I paid another $225 or so for the dyno work and custom mapping. I installed it myself to save a little. I figure they had it on the dyno for about 1.5 hours to get it dialed in and did each cylinder separately. He was dialing it in at all different throttle positions, but I couldn't always keep track of all the changes he was making as they were flashing up on the screen. I was able to watch all the work on a big screen TV at the Euromotorsports shop in Scottsdale. This dyno room is the nicest I have seen and the work was done by Mark Ledesma a former AMA pro racer. He is really good and fun to talk with.
Anyway, I am in the process of moving to Colorado so I probably won't have it done again until I get there so it is set up for the new riding conditions.
Overall, there is definitely an improvement in the performance, but at the expense of fuel consumption. I guess that larger tank is now in my future!
Out!

Mileage...
~
Axe,
You'll get much, much better mileage if you paint the PCIII...
Painting cures everything.

I read somewhere that the power commander does not tuneable under 4000 rpm on the hyper unless you also have a DP ecu, can anyone valadate that claim?
