exhaust

why could the existing exhaust system not be taken off and a straight through silencer connected to the pipe. would this destroy the engine. what are those wires why go to the existing system

There is a flapper valve that closed the exhaust. I believe it is to help w/sound. The ECU controls the valve. You would need to get a new exhaust w/a new ECU or an Arrow exhaust which has a bracket to fool the ECU into thinking the flapper is still on. There have been a lot of threads on this topic. Do a search on flapper or ECU or exhaust in the Motard forum.
