What happened to the "Wheelie Ticket" thread???
~
Honestly...
I'm just curious. What happened to the "Wheelie Ticket" thread. I realize were some heated words and less than constructive dialogue, but still there was some useful points in that thread.
Just wondering...
Thanks!
Dallara

I pulled it because it turned into an insult-fest between two members. You can thank them.

Thanks for replying so quickly.
Hopefully I can speak freely here, and please understand I am only offering an opinion based on some experience on other forums...
I can understand your motivation for what you did, but would it perhaps been better if you had left a notice on the board that the thread had been deleted? Better yet, IMHO, would have been to have a post in the thread explaining your actions and then locking the thread... It would have fallen off the page soon enough and faded away, and members here wouldn't have perhaps been looking for it.
Honestly, I can't understand deleting threads. It literally destroyed a previous board I was on when it was done without explanation or notice. In a very mild sense it seems a bit like censorship to me. Of course, I'm sure it was violating the terms and rules of the forums in the eyes of the moderators...
Anyway, no problem.
I was just wondering.
Thanks!
Dallara

The only moderation choices I have in this section were to delete or ignore, and the way the kids were carrying on last night, ignore wasn't an option. It's my job!
However, you make some excellent points. I am talking with a mod with more powers in this section about editing the thread and re-posting it. Stand by...
Thanks for the constructive thoughts.

I agree with Dallara.
I expected the thread in question to be locked rather than deleted.
Hopefully you'll be given more choices next time around, Chuck. You do a thankless job here so, thank you.

Totally understand, and I appreciate your candor about the situation, as well as making the effort to find a workable solution.
I hesitated to even mention it as on previous boards the moderators simply would not entertain ideas or critical observation of any kind, whether its intent was constructive or not. They were so into their ***power*** as mods they simply ignored the problem and said the members simply were not smart enough to understand their jobs... That led to a virtual civil war on that board and eventually a mass exodus of a large number of members who formed a new board.
Unfortunately on that new board a small number of the members appointed themselves as moderators despite them not having any ownership, etc. of the board, and then started high-handed hijinks of their own... Moving threads, deleting threads and posts, threatening members with banishment (despite the original charter of the board stating "No Moderators - No Banning - Democratic Rule by the Members"), etc., etc., etc.... Essentially perfectly mimicking the board they left. As such that board lost the majority of its members, all of whom walked away, and now the board is nothing more than a wispy ghost of its original vibrant, growing form, and worse, has become a bizarrely warped and laughable parody of itself... With a miniscule membership, and completely dominated by four or five attention whores who are responsible for more than 1 out of every 4 posts there. Hell, one guy alone makes 1 out of every 8 posts there!!!
Makes it a pretty boring and stagnant place...
I can see that is not the case here, and that you guys want to run the board for the members. In fact, I have always marveled at how incredibly well this board ran, despite the huge number of members and occasional dust-ups.
Kudos to you and the rest of the folks who make this board what it is, Chuck. My hat's off to you, and I appreciate you listening sincerely and objectively. It's a nice breath of fresh air.
Thanks!
Dallara

The last time I checked the thread in question was late yesterday afternoon. It seemed then that the level of heat was increasing but I missed the finale.
Truly, moderating boards like this is a thankless job, so thanks Chuckracer. I too would much prefer the option of locking a thread but really, once a thread gets "offensive" or goes beyond the rules, what choice is there other than deleting or locking after editing?
If you can edit and then repost, great.
