Nicky Hayden Presser at So Cal Ducati
Friday night I went to the Ducati/Nicky Hayden Q & A at So Cal Ducati. I was an ... ahem ... honored guest and managed to weasel my way onto the VIP list (thanks Bromike). Wandering around before the event was really underway I noticed a few things about So Cal:
1)The place is HUGE and absolutely gorgeous ... it makes you WANT to spend all your money.
2)They have some bitchen parts on display - magnesium Corse engine cover (clutch side), Forged Marchesinis, pressure plates by the ton, leathers and shirts and gear ... the place was very well stocked.
3)The people were ALL very nice.
So, anyway, I managed to stumble across a few old-school Ducati models (A Troy Bayliss GP bike and a Capirossi/Stoner GP bike), snagged a pre-signing autograph from Nicky on my Kentucky Kid DVD ("Go ahead and sign on top of Valentino.") and got a photo with the man.
Truth be told, he was totally wasted as far as sleep was concerned. The poor guy was literally asleep on his feet as is evidenced by his lack of interest in taking a picture with me. The guy gets paid a ton of money to do the glad-hand meet and greets with people like us and he knows it. Props to Hayden for sackin' up, putting on a smile and going out and being the Company Man he was hired to be.
Here's the pictures:

Well I am envious, seriously I would love to have that same photo.
The dude rocks, he can ride and I believe he will do well for Ducati, he is very consistent and that is just one of his strong points.
Looking forward to a great year.

Pleased to hear that you were an honored guest and got to sit inside while the public stood outside straining, I mean STRAINING to hear what he was saying and were lucky to hear a single word. What a let down. The opportunity to get an autograph was pretty sad.
It was a great event if you wanted to see the official Ducati clothing and accessory line up or to see ( maybe ) the top of Nick's head. But for me, a complete and predictable waste of time. Glad it was only five miles from my house

Well, I guess there has to be some line between VIP and just plain P otherwise you wouldn't have a need for the separation.
And I heard that Nicky was only supposed to be signing for 15 minutes as there was a strict schedule to keep. After those 15 minutes past; he was asked what to do. He looked at the line and said everyone gets an autograph. Now I'm sure some people didn't get one as the night progressed but I have to give it to the kid for doing that much for the fans.
But I wasn't there; I had to work Someone has to make money around here

Man, that's a huge bummer.
Believe me, I'm nobody's VIP; I'm just the fortunate recipient of a major kickdown from a well-connected friend.
I have a few snippets of video from the Q & A that I tried to upload to youtube last night - however, it didn't happen. In all honesty they're not very good, but I would be happy to mail them to someone for posting/hosting.

I like the fact that Ducati picked up a redneck from Kentucky to ride their bikes and pimp their gear! Now all the purests can fall in line, grab a cool Bud, and enjoy the Daytona 500 just like they enjoy watching Nicky on his bike! It makes me proud to own a Duc!
Out!
