Anyone dislike the lightweight flywheel?
Just curious. With the "bad" weather this weekend, I thought I would take the opportunity to pull my flywheel and cut some weight.I'm planning removing as much material as structurally possible which should leave it somewhere between the DP product and the Nichols which of course is aluminum. I guess my question is has anyone experienced any ill effects from the light flywheel? i.e. loss of traction especially on wet roads?

quite possibly the single best mod I've made to the bike. it transforms the willingness of the engine to rev. down shirts are a no-brainer. bange em down and it spins right up. the most underrated mod, IMO
THe Keihin FCR41s are a close second. They make a ton more power, but if I still had the OEM flywheel, it would still like it was running in molasses.
I got the Yoyodyne, which I understand is just slightly more weight than the Nichols, and I'v experienced absolutely no downside. it's had a positive impact on performance, revability, downshifts, handling. really, a great mod.

for the $$$$ its the best thing I have done. More power to the ground faster. It also reduced wheel hop on hard deceleration, almost like a slipper but not quiet

Definitely a good mod for less than changing wheels...
Got Nichols lightweight flyweel, and that is a great improvement.

Here is a comparison of the 3 phaze flywheels:
Top left are (stock) on 1999 thru 2006's (748/999,ST4ect..)5 lbs.
Top right are (stock)on 1098's, Hyper's ect.. 4 lbs.10 ozs.
Bottom right are (stock) on 848's and 1098R's 2 lbs. 3 ozs.
Bottom left is after we machine/bal. them 1 lb. 12ozs.

Why did Ducati choose a heavy flywheel for the HYM?
From that picture you posted, does the newer 848/1098 flywheel bolt up to the HYM?
Did any of those running light weight flywheels experience a loss of momentum in the lower RPM's when cruising? I'd assume the heavier flywheel helps keep the engine stalling when cruising below 3krpms.

I would think that if infact the flywheels are different weights that it was an attempt at keeping the frnt wheel down.
