Average Dealer Cost For Installing The Termi 2-1 ??

I am sure this might have been covered before, but just couldn't find the thread about it. I am curious as too how many hour's of labor dealers are charging to install the termi 2-1. I am being told by my local dealer's 4-5 hour's. Does this sound right to you guys ??
F-

P.S. This might be important, I didn't buy the bike or the exhaust from any of the dealers I contacted. Because of this some dealer's don't want to even bother installing it and other's usually tell me 5 hour's, which I personally feel is too much.

took me about 2 hours to install the termi 2-1 on my hypertard. then it took another 15 minutes to reset the TPS for the new ecu.

try installing the termis yourself, then go back to the dealer to have the TSP reset.

Even though my bike came with it already installed, they put down on the bill 467.50 for installation in Chicago. Shop around and get quotes. Like Johnc said do it yourself, I heard that Termi's are pretty much plug and play unlike the other exhaust that require much more work.

LETKO (KC, MO) installed for free when I purchased the bike. They also knocked $150 of the price of the system.

John-

It was something I was planning to do if this was the issue with the installation cost being so much. I also believe you sent me the colored instructions a couple month back as well.
Really 2 hours it took for the complete instillation ??

Mati-

467.00, that seems close to NY prices, so i assume they charged you 4 hours for instillation.

its winter so I thought I could get a decent price or atleast the true hours it takes to install the system. I would attempt and install the system if I had a good working space to do it in.

I have a 2 into 1 I dont need or use and the race ECU, instructions, etc. Full set up... You can install yourself and have the dealer reset the TPS if necessary.

I removed it for noise reasons since I work on a military installation. 30 min to remove and 3 hours to install original system without instructions and missing $96 in parts. I could install the 2 into 1 in one hour now, but 2-3 if never done before.

Why didn't you just install the db killer while on base? It takes two seconds and fits in your pocket.

I'm a bit of a purist and likely the only hyper owner who wants stock everything. I probably shouldnt write this, but I installed heated grips the other day and i love them. I even put the closed cover back on the clutch.

With a 2 into 1 termi, the O2 sensor is bypassed and the mixture is too rich for my taste. I was informed the race ECU could only be trimmed after 5000 rpm or maybe 2500, i dont remember. I ride a lot of wheelies and try to keep as stealthy as possible.

The truth is i'll never out ride the bike with its current power at stock condition. The reliability goes up too. I can buy a built RMZ 450 that will smoke a hyper for $5K and be better off in the short and long run.

If i can find a way to map the ECU or flash the memory with custom maps in concert with a dyno, i may go that route some day.

I know, i freaking nuts...

ciao ferrell -

yup ... took me about 2 hours, give or take a quarter hour. now, i had a leovince slipon and cat eliminator installed already, when i installed the termi 2-1 system ... so some of the stuff you will need to remove (like the flapper motor, lambda sensor wire if you decide not to run the lambda) was already off my bike. given that, dopie536's comment about it taking them 3 hours would seem about right.

look, if you are moderately competent with hand tools, you can do this installation yourself. take your time, really read the installation instructions, look at the color photos (in the PDF i sent you), and remember ... work carefully, disconnect the battery before you remove the old/install the new tps, leave everything loose until you have everything attached and positioned, and pay attention when you are tightening nuts and bolts up, so you don't break a bolt/nut, break the plexiglas under seat panel, etc.

then, ride or trailer your bike down to your dealer, and have them reset the tps.

if you do the above, you will save a few benjamins, have a better understanding of your hypermotard ... and a warm fuzzy feeling that you did the job yourself.

email me if you have any further questions.

a presto,
johnc
