Brake "pump up" survey
To get a better idea of who is effected and remedies tried/success etc, could you all compile the following information by "Quote"
(The symptoms are, squeeze brake lever for a set amount of travel & retardation, release and squeeze again for much less travel and much increased braking power/retardation. Air in system not the problem).
MODEL: (Hyper or 1098, Base or 'S')
BRAKES: (Radial or Radial Monobloc)
PARTS REPLACED: (Standard or aftermarket)
MODIFICATIONS: (Machining etc of either standard or aftermarket brake parts)
SUCCESS/FAILURE:

MODEL: Hyper 'S'
BRAKES: Radial Monobloc
PARTS REPLACED: Discs & m/c replaced under warranty with 1098 pads
MODIFICATIONS: None
SUCCESS/FAILURE: Problem still exists, always feels good for the first ride after bleeding/service/warranty work but after that it returns. ????

MODEL: Hyper 'S'
BRAKES: Radial Monobloc
PARTS REPLACED: None
MODIFICATIONS: Pazzo lever (not really a factor) ... I've bled it a couple of times, but it really doesn't make a difference
SUCCESS/FAILURE: I've just learned to live with it, but I still don't like it. Some day I'll try a different master cylinder...

MODEL: S
BRAKES: Radial Monobloc
PARTS REPLACED: pazzo levers & 999 style reserviors
MODIFICATIONS: only the above
SUCCESS/FAILURE: brakes still pump up. I dont notice it when riding, only when it is parked in the garage.
it seems to me that the pistons are back out too far into the caliper...

MODEL: Base
BRAKES: Radial
PARTS REPLACED: None
MODIFICATIONS: None
SUCCESS/FAILURE: I'm just dealing with the pump up. It's not all that bothersome to me at this point... but it is there even on the base model.

Must be my management background
OK here's my info:
MODEL: HM-S
BRAKES: Radial Monobloc
PARTS REPLACED: Pazzo shorty lever
MODIFICATIONS: No brake mods - stock pads
SUCCESS/FAILURE: I've gotten used to it but will replace the MC eventually with the trick Brembo unit. Just need to use a little caution when getting back on the HM after riding my other bikes.

MODEL: Hyper 'S'
BRAKES: Radial Monobloc
PARTS REPLACED: None
MODIFICATIONS: None. I've bled it and tried the zip tie around the brake lever trick and let it sit overnight. The zip tie method works for a while but the pump up comes back over time.
SUCCESS/FAILURE: I will probably try an aftermarket Brembo m/c in the future.

MODEL: Hyper 'S'
BRAKES: Radial Monobloc

MODIFICATIONS: None.
SUCCESS/FAILURE: It does it like most if not all of the others. Some day I'll care enough to call Yoyodyne and see what Fred thinks it could be. Or I won't. I've gotten in the habit of a qucik squeeze then letting off (with the monoblocs that's not a lot of throw on the lever anyway) before really braking. It takes less time to do than it took to read that sentence by a long shot.
