Changing the look of the handlebars (part II)

I posted up a little while ago my Christmas wish list to change the look of the Naughtybike. Well Santa came and left me lots of goodies and the transformation has started.

First the pressies:

I was expecting the standard Rizoma grips but my lovely lady went out and chose these instead

Big grin time when I opened them.

A quick shot of the old look then down to work.

Soon there was a pile of old bits put to one side and the work could begin.

A few problems came up as I went along; The switch gear housing has locating lugs which fit into holes on the standard bars.

Do I cut them off or do I drill into the new bars? I decided that new holes would be the way to go as I would then know that the units would not move if they became a little loose.

OK a small pilot hole first, drill, drill, snap! Damn these bars are solid. Three drill bits later and the holes were done.

Now I have a small confession here; it was freezing cold and the light was starting to fade so not many pictures were taken as I went along but here are the bars fitted:

The Ducati workbench:

The clutch lever before fitting:

And the assembly all in place:

Tother side has also been done and the handguards have been fitted. It was dark by the time these were finished due to a problem with the wiring in of the indicator lights. I eventually soldered the wires and encased them in plastic sleeves as the joints supplied would not hold a connection.

The bar ends have yet to be installed as the bolts supplied by Rizoma are not long enough to pass through the end of the handguard and then far enough into the bar to get a good enough hold. Those supplied with the guards are much meatier bolts but are wider than the holes in the ends so a bit more drilling is required.

The mirrors look fantastic but the adaptors I have (Ducati Performance) are different threads whereas the mirrors are the same thread so either I buy a further set to give me a replacement or I go for a set of Rizoma ones to match up. At the moment only one mirror is in place.

Pictures of these and the finished job will follow.

Are you keeping the old mirror set up, or selling?

Superb. The Rizoma stuff really is the best but you pay for it big time. The Pazzo shorties were seconds from a guy on the Ducatisti forum he had only ridden 50 or so miles on them when he decided to change out his Hyper. £40 off the usual price and again the quality is fantastic. The Zeta stuff came in from America and I'm very impressed with the bars Solid and thick. The hand guards are very cool in red with the black plastic protectors. When the Flashers were connected properly I noticed the flash rate was a little fast but was expecting this. I also have a set of the red protectors but these are slightly off colour from the bike so may not use them.

Jim I'm not looking to sell them yet but there is a guy looking to sell a set here fair price for handguards and mirrors

Great job! Are those Rizoma mirrors? If so, which model are they? I don't see them listed on the Rizoma website.

Jeez that's cold out there

OK here's the bike as it is now one mirror light, the barend to fit and just a little bit frosty but with the guards on and a mirror fitted:

Oh and the little man just coming to have a looksee at what dad is doing

That looks great! I might have to get a set of those grips. You need to add the Rizoma reservoirs to finish off the look.

Out!

Witch Zeta Bar Bend/Model

Which Zeta bar did you order? I see they come in different models for popular dirt bikes, but they also list a medium and a low Motard model.
How close are they to the stock bars?

Thanks,

Woodchuck

Axe the resevoirs are next in line

Woodchuck the setup I bought was the deal organised with Wheeling Cycle Supplies as listed here http://www.ducati.ms/forums/showthre...eta+handguards Motard mediums.

The bars are a very similar shape to the stock but much much stronger. a little longer as well.

What is the length of this set-up ? How much do you save by getting rid of the stock mirrors ?
