Hyperstrada in 2010???
I found this in a French Magazine. Apparently Ducati informed some dealers about a new modele for 2010 to compete against the BMW 1200 GS:
1/3 HM : frame + engine
1/3 MS: riding position + windshield
1/3 1098 : front end and headlight
This is a photoshop pics made by the magazine as per the info received by the dealers:

Rumours of a GS challenging Ducati have been circulating for some time, often referred to as the "Strata Aperta", ie "Open Road." I hope the one depicted in the photoshop rendition is not even close, as it's merely a MS with reworked fairings/lamp IMO.

Man, it looks as though they took the worst of all three bikes and made a Versys knock off. It's ugly but still better looking than a 1200GS.

Awww man!!!! I got all excited thinking it was that custom Hyperstrada with the Acerbis headlight. I think it looks allright but needs a bigger front fender like the GS.

Again, the french motorcycle magazine (very known magazine in France) is clearly mentioning that they did a photoshop of what the Ducati's rep said to dealers. this is not a pictures of a prototype draft by Ducati itself. But I think it is an interesting exercize with the GS1200 in their target scope. Hey, they created the Streetfighter to go after the Brutale market.

Everything ive read said 4 valve, liquid cooled. Multistrada.net has been discussing this new bike a lot. It will probably be my next bike if it looks half decent.

It has possibilities! Maybe a little too much like a Triumph Tiger.
I too would buy won if if was a little more dual sport like. I was just thinking on the way to work that it would be nice to have a dual sport Hyper. I thought you could modify the subframe to hold some hard bags from a Multi, put on some knobbies like the snow rider, some HIDs, and add some type of half fairing (more BMW GS like).
Hypers are cheap now, may as well buy a second one and fab up some goods and hit the trails.
Out!

Terra Mostro...
~
Certainly this has been shown or mentioned here before...

My understanding is they are currently working on an 1100cc version, as well as a kit to retro-fit your own Duc if you so desire.
Just FYI...
