Wheelies by slipping the clutch: is it not safe?

A mate of mine told me that one should never slip the clutch to pop a wheelie on a dry clutch system.
Is it true?

prolly gonna wear the clutch a little faster....dogging the bike cant be the best thing for it either. If your not gonna dog it why do you have it??

it's certainly easier to flip the bike by clutching it. But that applies to both and wet & dry clutches.

Thanks a lot for the replies.
I'm used to wheelie by slipping the clutch, I find that I have much more control on the wheelie that way.

Another question:
Is it true that the Desmodromic engine could eventually seize because of popping long fat wheelies? Apparently the oil get stuck at the back because of the way the bike is inclined while the front end is pointing up? Any truth, or is it just another pub story?

The main concern is blowing oil out the crank breather valve during extended wheelies. There are mods you can make to prevent that if you're a wheelie monster...

Past Ducatis have had issues with oiling due to the location of the pickup in the sump. This has been "rectified" in recent past and you should have no problems.

Watch out, though, because extended wheelies will pump oil into the airbox and turn your bike from a Hypermotard into a Hyperchimney.

Popping the clutch to do wheelies, is no different to a wet or dry clutch,
as they are both the same mechanism, so "POP" away! Aloha Alex

None of mine need to pop the clutch to do a wheelie.

Personally, I am proud of the fact that I never wheelie except when powering out of corners in the mountains.

It's called self control.
