Performance wise, is Termi 2-1 the best?
I'm pretty much set on getting this exhaust for my bike. I like the way it looks and I've heard great things about it. I also like the fact that it comes with the DP ECU. The only thing holding me back is the price.
I'd like to look at my other options. I'm kinda digging some of the aftermarket dual underseats that I've seen. I like the Zard Shotgun and the offering from Leo Vince. I also like how I get to keep the stock tail section with the dual underseat versions.
How do these options hold up performance wise compared to the Termi 2-1? Is there any difference in power characteristics between a 2-1 vs a 2-1-2? Any difference in sound characteristics?
Thanks

I would be willing to bet only a dyno could detect any performance difference between any of the exhausts you mentioned; provided, however, that you really follow through and properly set them up (i.e., TPS reset, fuel trim, TB synch., etc.).
Sound quality and looks are purely subjective and everyone has their opinions. You'll simply need to decide for yourself which combination is "best".
The deciding factor for me was the weight savings afforded by the Termi 2-1. After replacing the stock system, I had to have my suspension set-up because the bike handling was so different. The other systems you mentioned probably have similar weight savings, but I suspect the Termi 2-1 is probably the lightest.
The build quality on the LVs is much better than the Termi and I have heard good things about Arrows.

we have dyno'd the 2-1 termi, 2-2 slip on's and the 2-1 Shark, I believe that was the name of the one from Ducati NA last go around of free exhaust... All tested on the same bike.
So far the Termignoni 2-1 performance was the best of the three..

Unless you are looking to scrape every last HP out of it I would run with what you like rather than the performance if dollars dictate.
Dave can you tell us the HP gains from the 2-1 v 2-2?
I think the DP ECU is the best way to go but would have to say my Termi slipons finish is a little less than desirable compared to their opposition.
I have the Zard headers, cat and valve remover collectors from Anthony and Termi slipons/ECU, this seems to be a good combo.

If you were to buy everything new then I suppose the Termi 2-1 would be a good deal, but I hear Anthony put some good Zard packages together as well. If you score a DP ECU on ebay for less than half list then you have a lot of 2-1-2 under seat options. Like what was said they are all close and it depends on what you like.

I am pretty happy with the sound of the 2-1 termi with the baffle removed- it sure seems louder than the 2-2 termis w/a cat remover. I *really* like the sound of the overrun when you back off the throttle. I speed up and slow down just to hear it. That burned through the back tire pretty quick, but I guess that is the price to pay.
As for the price... I looked at it this way. Losing an equivalent amount of weight elsewhere will be pretty expensive and if you go for the cam kit you can always sell the ECU that came with termi kit

2-1 vs 2-1-2 exhaust
I'm running an Arrow header, stock mid section w/ butterfly removed & termi twin tips... a good friend is running the complete termi 2-1 race exhaust system... there might be a .5 hp difference, but we didn't run at the same time... so all things being the same, I would say they are equal... it would be down to how you want the bike to look...

Quat-D...
Never tried any other brands or styles, but I have a Quat-D 2-1 system mounted on mine. I use a GDS airbox cover, DNA filter, DP Termi 2-1 Carbon side panels, and a DP Termi 2-1 ECU honed a bit with a Technoresearch rig.
I love it.
One of the reasons I got it was it lower and lighter than most other systems - i.e. stainless steel header pipes, titanium can with magnesium caps, etc. Another reason was it doesn't carry the can up high but instead down low, which should lower the center-of-gravity compared to other systems. Last, but not least, though the header pipes are much the same length as other systems, once the pipes come together at the collector the system from there on is much shorter than any other system out there... In theory this should boost power...
However, since there is no dyno readily available in my area, or even within 150 miles or so, I cannot honestly say whether it makes more or less than anyone else's set-up. I only know I haven't been pulled by any other Hyper's with Termi's and I have run across a couple, and I weighed considerably more than the riders on those...
I like the sound of the rig, and the fit and finish is exemplary (Quat-D makes Ferrari's factory exhaust systems on some of their models, BTW), and it was pretty easy to install and all the pieces fit. Really high quality materials, with even a Q-D logo subtlely laser-etched into one of the header pipes right at the collector juncture.
One of the best things about the pipe is that you don't see one on all the other Hyper's you come across. Makes your Hyper pretty unique, and you get lots of comments on the system.
Here's a pic...
I got mine from Motowheels - http://www.motowheels.com/index2.html
Just FYI...
Hope it helps.

I like the Quat D. My only issue with it is that it appears to mount to the passenger peg bracket. Also, removing the rear wheel may require removal of the muffler, could be wrong about that though. Nice to have a number of exhaust options to chose from.

I like it as well, but the system is roughly a little over a grand and if you get the dp ecu, isn't then becoming close to the price of the termi 2-1 ??
