I have std cams however the single biggest thing to unblock these bikes is the air intake mod followed by the cat elim, valve maybe not so much.

Remembering the Zards are 45 mm the OEM pipe is 39 mm, the Zards are equal length at 760 long so even pulses, if you are gonna do cams don't piss round with the factory headers and mid section.

like he said. Also the cams cost about as much to install as they do to buy so the headers and cat eliminators are better bang for buck. Though to get best results you need the full system ECU. However, if you are going to do the cams as well, you don't need the full system ECU as the cams come with their own ECU.

Also I think the cams ECU has no control for the flapper valve

well designed headers are designed with equal lengths so the exhaust pressure from each branch is equal

I'm running DP cams, Arrow header & Termi slip-on (not side mounted) and have the same HP as a full Termi race system.

like he said

V twins or more specifically L twins perform best with equal length headers, the supposed perfect length is said to be 28 - 30 inches.

By even pulses your get even purging which means that one cylinder firing out and the other is pulsing back, so this balance allows far better flow from each cylinder thus creates better sound, better running, better power and better fuel usage.

You ever noticed that the 999 and MH900e sound like a V 1.75!!

I'm running the DP-cams with head porting, rest is standard (yet, still searching an exhaust which I like).

Result from stock 83hp to tuned 98hp at the wheel.
