Hyper help?
Hi Everyone,
New here, but not new to bikes. Any way I have one of the infamous Stalling Hypermotards. I have read many post on it. I am currently working on putting some information together to present to my dealer, ducati & NJ division of consumer affairs. If there is still some guys out there experiencing the stalling, popping, and surging I would greatly appreciate a hands up. I'm sure not everyone has finally gotten fed up & coughed up the cash for the performance ECU? Ducati has put me through all the test & they continue to just raise the idle to mask the problem. Idle will go up to 1700 rpm on a cold day now. Will still surge & pop though. Oh yeah I even had the 23.2 EXVL check engine code come on quite a few times too.
Thanks for a GREAT site everyone

Just bring your bike to Eurosports in Coopersburg, PA. Bill Himmelsbach was able to get my stalling to go away in one attempt after the guys at another dealer failed to do it in 3 attempts.
Ducati has dealers doing a very long checklist of items to make sure everything is in spec. That seemed to work for my bike.
Even though my stalling was eventually fixed I did end up going with a Leo Vince exhaust and Termi slip-on ECU. Now the bike runs as smooth as butter.

Bill is not only very good but also very friendly and informative. He came out and filled me in on the details each time I've been there. He was one of the main reasons I purchased from Eurosports. Great crew out there.

Hi MarksFriggin,
I have spoken to Jenn @ Eurosports. She was very knowledgable about the problems ducati is having. They just haven't got an answer yet she told me. I beleive your bike was first at the same dealer mine was recently (Trebour). They did the ducati drivability test & resets. Said a loose timing belt was all they found. My problems were really bad in the summer. The hotter it was the worse it was. Yet when it was 50 out it did'nt stall. Almost would though. Still ran poorly (lean). Told me that when it was 80 the belt was loose yet when it was 50 it was ok. Any way I was curios how many miles did you put on the bike after Eurosports did all the tests & resets, before you installed the Termi ECU? Because it seems like the computer relearns in about 100 miles and the problems come right back?
Ive seen the O2 manipulater, basically an in line variable resitor. I just feel I shouldn't have to fork out another $100 to fix ducati's errors. The bike should run properly for $12000.

I put on a few hundred miles with zero stalls after Eurosports went over it. My symptoms were very much like yours. In the winter it ran perfect, when the warmer weather came, the stalling was very frequent.

RedDuc999,
Where are you in NWNJ? I'm in Jefferson Twp. Got mine at Trebour as well.
The basic problem is that Ducati like everyone else is caught between meeting emmissions and making ther bike run right. Being air cooled makes it even tougher. Add mfg. tolerances and thats why some run OK and some don't. Mine was fine except for occasional stall during warm up and hot/snatchy (lean) performance.
It needs more fuel. The best thing you can do to put it to bed permanently is save coin and grab a DP ECU off ebay or the classifieds here when one becomes available. It will transform the bike, even with no other mods. It will run a lot smoother, 30 deg cooler on avg., and no stalling. I have the VDST and would be happy to set the TPS and trim for you.

It does suck that we have to spend so much money just to get the bike to run right... but it is a drastic improvement when you do put in a DP ECU. I lucked out and got a used ECU, airbox lid and O2 eliminator for $325 and a Leo Vince exhaust and cat eliminator for under 900 bucks.
