Cool M/C Road Test

LMFAO as I watch a friend of mine FAIL his road test using my Hyper.

He's 5'8", put his foot down at least 5 times and stalled it twice.

Not the bike for a Noob to test on...

when I took mine way back a guy actually crashed on the accelerate and stop test, and they made us all wait till an ambulance arrived and checked him out.

i take it that nj and fl do not have the same mc riding test that ca does.

in ca, you need to ride the bike between a set of cones (no problems there), then complete two full turns around a 15' diameter circle with two lines spaced about 1' apart (this is where the trouble enters in on pretty much ANY ducati, which have notoriously poor turning radii), then ride a straight line between the 1' spaced lines (again, not much trouble there), then turn around and ride the course back again. if you place a foot down, OR the tires go outside of the lines ... you fail.

so, in ca, taking the dmv riding test is not advisable on a duc. back in 2000 when i needed to take the test because i let my m1 license elapse, i visited the dmv parking lot where they had the circle and lines painted ... and tried the circle test on my new 900ssie ... after riding the circle, found out that the bike would not make the radius ... so got off the bike and pushed it around the circle ... still would not stay inside the lines, due to the steering lock from the fork stops. tightened the fork stops all the way in ... still no-go.

ended up taking the test on a friends honda xr250. was a breeze on that bike, as i could trials it around the circle.

I did mine on a XT650 back in the day. I would think the Hyper would actually be a good bike for this....if you were used to it. To just jump on a Hyper and go for a test is a poor choice.

Rent-a-Duc

When at my local CA DMV upping my licence, I had a guy offer to pay me if I let him borrow my Hyper for the driving test. I guess he felt that his HD hog wouldn't cut it. I did decline the offer though.

I took my DMV driving test on my Hyper. I had been riding on the street on occasion for many years and then I got my HM last November and went legit. It was harder then I thought it would be. I passed the first time, but really had to slip the clutch a lot to go the slow speed they wanted, as idling in first is faster then they would allow. At one point it was really leaning off of the seat to keep my balance. I was shaking with nerves and excitement after completed the test. The other guy taking the test before me had an automatic moped that was about 4" off of the ground; that is cheating in my book. The high center of gravity and the high first gear really do make it an unsuitable DMV bike. I think a 450 supermoto would be the cat's ass for a test bike.

i wonder what the dmv nazi rules are for taking the test with a motorcycle/sidecar?

weaving between the cones would be a little difficult, and there is no way you could keep all three tires inside the 1' wide lines for the circle

I can see a stock bike being a nightmare for a novice. If it has the gearing dropped and the lean, snatchy fueling fixed it shouldn't be that bad. With the G2 throttle its super easy to control off idle. I may let my nephew use mine for his test, but he is a very good enduro rider.
